Experts, did I get ripped off, or is $450 normal for the 30,000 mile service to a 99 F-150 4x4 5.4 Auto Lariat in SE Texas? When I questioned the high charge, the Ford service guy said that 30,000 miles is considered a major service with lots of stuff done. As far as I can see from the service invoice, all they did was change fluids and check stuff. They also repaired the rear brakes at no charge under warranty, as they said they were sticking. I'm still reeling having paid this much, as the regular "every 5000 mile" service to date has only cost about $60 each time! Thanks in advance! Did you ask before you had the work done how much it would cost? The warning bells and flashing red lights should have gone off at that point. All you can do now is post a line item invoice to the list, maybe Nathan or someone can respond. My previous experience with the X0,000-mile checkups is that dealers love anything that has a lot of "inspecting" stuff as opposed to "replacing" stuff. (It takes a lot less time to inspect something than to replace it, time=money.) - --ms - -----Original Message----- From: owner-97up-list [mailto:owner-97up-list Sent: Wednesday, December 22, 1999 9:17 AM To: 97up-list Subject: FTE 97up - $450 for the 30 000 mile service? I would personally not pay $450.00 for any routine service. Your bill must list what they did and the hours it took or the parts that they used. Look it over and question the dealer. Maybe they inadvertantly charged you for the brakes? Keith- I agree with the other fellas; go over the statement in fine detail and find out what the real cost was. Check for labor time and parts for the brake work (did you notice them sticking, or did they "tell" you they were?), there shouldn't be any cost for either (warranty). Which dealer pulled this number on you? I've used a couple ones here in HOU, if you're near the city I may recommend mine. I just had to pop in a couple of light bulbs and "Let there be light". My question is does anyone have the part # for the clear lenses that are on the Lariats. I currently have the red lenses which are nice for opening my door in traffic situations but don't illuminate the area very well. I also am considering upgrading to the Lariat sun visors. They appear to cover a much greater area of the windshield. The part # for those would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. BTW I spend mucho time at ford-diesel. comso if there are any general PSD questions I'll do my best to answer them next week. I only have acces to the web on Mon, Tues, and Wed. My last truck was a 98 door cracked, piston slapped F150. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ End of 97up-list-digest V2 #343 ******************************* +------ Ford Truck Enthusiasts - 1997 and Newer Trucks and Vans ------+ | Send posts to 97up-list | List removal information is on the web site. | +---------- Visit Our Web Site: http://www.ford-trucks.com/ ----------+....
