However, it is possible that an earlier bed could have been put on but it wouldn't be a fun job as the frame rails are off by about an inch on each side. What is the width of your taillights at the widest point? If its wider than 2 7/8" than you have the correct bed, if its 2 7/8" you have a 67-72 bed. Also, keep in mind that there's more than one bed length. The fleet site bed came several lengths but for simplicity sake I just call them long, standard and short. -Ken List Administrator, 1967 Ford F100, 390FE V8 Our web site: http://www.ford-trucks.com (subscribe/unsubscribe forms on the web site) fordtrucks fordtrucks80up (Email me if you're on the wrong list) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Aug 1997 21:00:22 -0400 From: OldTrux To: fordtrucks Subject: Re: 1966 f100 4x4 engine mounts Message-Id: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" I have a '66 F100 4x4 352 all stock. Second, am I going to have a problem with the output shaft? Shifter Problem = NO Output Shaft Problem = YES If you are converting your 78 4 speed Bronco to the 460 C-6 setup you will need an automatic style steering column with the transmission shift lever. Go all the way and find a tilt column. I bought mine in excellent condition for $35. To attach the C-6 to the married type NP-205 transfer case you will need the married type rear C-6 tail shaft and the internal rear output shaft. You can either locate a complete C-6 transmission with the correct 351-400M, 460 bolt pattern or you can buy any pattern of a core and have the rear end of it installed to the C-6 you already have. You should also be aware that there are two different lengths of these adapter/shafts setups. To decide which one you need simply measure the length of your 435 transmission and bellhousing. Measure the C-6 from the front of the case to the point the rear output bolts on. The difference is the length of adapter you need. I am pretty sure that you will need the short adapter. My C-6 with the short adapter is sitting in the garage, let me know if you need to know the length of it. I believe that if you get under you bronco and look at the frame you will find 2 sets of holes for mounting the transfer case to either the long adapter or the short one. The problem is if you get the wrong adapter length you will need to make or buy 2 new drive lines. All of the old 77 1/2 to 79 adapters are made out of steel. For my setup I bought an adapter that was cast aluminum. I think that it is used to connect a C-6 to the NP 208 case on and early eighties Bronco, but I am not certain about that part. If you are unsure what you need simply buy a gasket for the connection between the C-6 and the 205 and you will have an instant parts identifier. Second, am I going to have a > problem with the output shaft? I'm really rusty now but seems like the shaft can be replaced without tearing the whole thing down but one person said otherwise so I'm not sure. I did it a long time ago. The linkage isn't really a problem, it just requires a little adjustment to the bar and flip flop of the lever on the transmission. The key is to make sure it's in park when the shifter on the column says it is which generally means all the way forward unless your linkage uses a bell crank which reverses the direction. I think I had to weld in a 4" piece of rod on mine to get it all to line up and reverse the lever and that was it. (that was in a van tho) What engine do you have in there now? What transmission? If you already have a c-6 in there, just bolt it up to the 460, otherwise you will have to find the short tail housing, output shaft and transfer case adapter to make it work. -- Gary Peters -- (Mine)78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6 (Mine)78 Bronco, 4wd, 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's (Daughter's)92 Tempo (Daughter's)92 T-Bird (Wife's)94 T-Bird (Son's)90 F-150, I6 (Son's)76 Blue Bird School bus All mine to work on, maintain etc.. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Aug 1997 21:02:20 -0400 From: John Macnamara To: fordtrucks Subject: Re: C6 trans shift arm Message-Id: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" George Shepherd wrote: > > I'm fixing to put a 460 and c6 out of a car into my bronco, am I going to > have this shifter problem. I had a similar experience with my 76. It turned out to be the voltage regulator that supplies current to the oil pressure, water temperature, and gas guages. It is a mechanical style regulator that works by interrupting current to the guages. To check it you can turn the key on (ACC or ON) and put a volt meter between the wire for the oil pressure or the water temperature guages and ground. You should see a fluctuating voltage between 8 to 12 volts. When mine faild it output a steady voltage of 5 to 6 volts. The low voltage caused all three guages to read low. (Believe me its a bad feeling to look down and see the oil pressure on the L). The regulator is located on the back of the instrument cluster. It is silver about 1 inch long .5 inch wide and has a connection similar to a 9 volt battery. Cost me about $12.00 and it was a snap to replace. By the way, one way to check the sending unit would be to check its resistance with the engine off (should be a high resistance) then start the motor. The resistance should drop as the pressure comes up. (about half the resistance when the motor is off). Sorry I don't have exact values but look for the change in resistance.
