Ok, by factory equiped do you mean a universal 4160 with specific calibration for that vehicle, that is the modular type with removable float bowls, metering blocks etc.. or the factory version with cast, one piece body like the 4110's? If it's the modular version, 4160 I may be able to offer some tips, some of which have already been proposed by others already. -- Gary Peters -- (Mine)78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6 (Mine)78 Bronco, 4wd, 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's (Daughter's)92 Tempo (Daughter's)92 T-Bird (Wife's)94 T-Bird (Son's)90 F-150, I6 (Son's)76 Blue Bird School bus All mine to work on, maintain etc.. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 1997 08:01:59 -0700 From: "James A. Yeah, I know I could get one to do a good job, the tech aspect isn't as high as a roller tho :-) I've always wanted to try one just to see what it's like but it seems I'm the only person in the world who thinks it's a good idea since there aren't very many options off the shelf. I saw lots of options for the lesser (IMHO) 351M/400 which had the characteristics I wanted but none for the 460 so far. It doesn't really matter anyway, I have a wife and daughter and will probabely never get enough money together in one place to get it done anyway :-( Building pole barns and saving for weddings and fixing up the house seem to take up all my time and money and the poor bronco is rotting away faster than I can fix it :-( -- Gary Peters -- (Mine)78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6 (Mine)78 Bronco, 4wd, 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's (Daughter's)92 Tempo (Daughter's)92 T-Bird (Wife's)94 T-Bird (Son's)90 F-150, I6 (Son's)76 Blue Bird School bus All mine to work on, maintain etc.. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 1997 11:34:08 -0500 From: Kevin Lindstedt To: fordtrucks Subject: Time & money (was: Re: 460 Maximum Compression Ratio?) I would like to see about retrofitting an expansion/evaporation tank and charcoal canister to my truck. See, the tank being in the cab and all, it just gets hot in there and then it kinda pressurizes and smelly vapor vents out the cap. Also, when you shut it off on a hot day some of what's in the floats will tend to evaporate as well. This really does stink, waste gas, and (yep) harm the environment, and I would like to know if it is possible (and if so who's done it) to install the "vapor catcher" to correct this. Manifold is high at idle and low at high loads (i.e. accelerating). Timed venturi is near zero at idle and gets higher as you open the throttle plates. Manifold is for the emission crap to reduce emissions. They have high advance at idle so the engine runs smooth at idle, then the advance drops off at higher loads to prevent harmful emissions. You will find that R134a will work on most system well. There are a couple of things that you will need to know if you want to make sure it work properly. First, You should but a new compressor(Reman). Even an old York style is OK. As long as it is a newly remanufactured unit. Second, the Expansion block/ valve should be adjusted if possible. If not, performance is not going to be up to spec. Assuming you have an adjustable expansion block/ valve you should be in good shape after replacing all the O-rings with the Green ones, and measure the correct amount of Ester oil and put them in all the components. A new Receiver/ accumulator is a must. If it is a clutch cycling system, the Cycling switch will also need to be adjusted or replace. BTW on a RWD vehicle, you will have to make sure your Fan clutch works perfectly or you can replace it with a electric fan. I am not sure what kind of AC system is in the 74 RAnger. I will look that up in my Mitchell on demand. If I can find anything, I will give you more specifics on it. Is it a Receiver/ Drier sys or Accumulator/Drier, Clutch Cycling by pressure or Temp? or no clutch cycling, and expansion valve unit. Can you tell me more?
