If is a 4-bbl with 4 >bolt mains, you may have something... If this is the original engine in that car, it is probably a 351 Windsor, and not a 351 Cleveland. According to my books, the last year Ford made the 351C was 1972. I know a few Mustangs (and maybe Cougars and Torinos) had left over 351Cs in 1973, but most 351s in cars from 1973-on were Windsors, until the 351M came out in 1976. Interestingly, in their sales literature, Ford referred to the 351M it used in some mid-70s passenger cars as a 351 Cleveland, but it was not. The easiest at-a-glance way to tell the difference between a Windsor and a Cleveland (or 351M/400, which used the same head design as the Cleveland) is to count the bolts on the valve cover or look at the shape of the valve cover. The Windsor has 7 bolts on the valve cover and uses the same style valve cover as the small block 289/302. The Cleveland uses 8 bolts on the valve cover. Looking from above the head, the Cleveland valve covers are square on the ends (rectangular overall), where the small block (Windsor) valve covers are trapezoidal shaped (narrower at the top -- toward the intake manifold). I just saw a price of $1.38 and thought I am getting a good deal. True this is at a name brand station, it was a little cheaper at the watered down place in town. I haven't seen gas prices in the 1.20's for about 2 years now, or has it been three, and I am talking about 87 octane. Hard to find an easy answer to my question about hooking up my throttle rod and transmission kickdown rod to my Edlebrock carb. Seems after much reading that I really do need to hookup the Ford Adapter to my Edelbrock carb. The adapter has the auto transmission lever whereas the basic 1406 carb does not. When the adapter is installed my throttle and transmission rods do not line up with the carb. Rather than bend rods etc...I was thinking of using a throttle cable operated system. Did any of the 1973-1979 F100's use a throttle cable instead of the throttle rod system? How about the transmission kickdown...anybody know if a cable system was used from the carb to the C6 transmission (1973-1979)? The transmission kickdown rod on my F100 has always seemed less than ideal for controlling the kickdown (kinda flops around). Do you think a post 1979 cable system could be adapted to my 1974 F100 throttle pedal assembly and transmission kickdown? I already have an Edelbrock throttle cable adapter plate and universal throttle cable bracket that I can use. Don Allen, Texas PS. I was just in Las Vegas last weekend and you can get 87 octane from around $1.18. We here in California are being ripped off as usual by our state govt for excess taxes. I traded my 83 F250HD, 4 speed, A/C, 4:10 rear for an 87, same specs. 83 had modified factory carb, and free flow muffler, and got 16 to 20 MPG (yes I know, but I had the documentation). 87, even after some mods, never got above 10 to 14. Neither Ford nor I ever got it to idle as smooth as my old engine, and power from 55 MPH up stunk (not that I would be admitting to exceeding the speed limits or anything)... I run a small fleet of Ford 250 / 350's, and we noticed this across the board as we replaced trucks. We also noticed shorter engine life with the injected engines for some reason. Rebuilds were more frequent. No idea why. We now use 351's [no 5.8's here ;^) ] in our trucks.. Just a lil snack for thought... Scott Back Up My Hard Drive? If leaking, it can suck fuel thru when running. Look down throat and see if ant fuel coming out discharge nozzle when running.. Holley makes a differnt style nozzle that is less prone to "drooling", I have P/N somewhere if needed.... Still in the same state and still in the same county and the prices can very that much. I am in Northern California, you guessed it.
