Probably the most important is how you drive your truck. Next in importance is how heavy your truck is. Of course how well tuned your engine may be is also important, but for anyone with a 97 or later truck, engine tune should be well within specs. Folks driving with a 4.10 rear won't get as many MPG as folks with a 3.55 rear under most conditions. By all means, try to optimize your MPG. Drive conservatively and eliminate weight such as caps, bedliners, running boards, brush guards, mud flaps, extra lights, roll bars, etc. If you have not yet bought your truck then consider a lower numerical axle ratio and pass on 4WD. A regular cab with a short bed will probably get more MPG than a super cab with a long bed. Keep the tailgate on the truck and keep it closed. If mileage is really a priority, consider a Ranger vs an F-Series or a diesel ($3778 invoice) vs gas. My feeling is that with regular gas selling for less than $1.00 per gallon I'm not going to worry about it. I'm just going to drive what I want the way I want and have a great time with my Ford Truck. Butch Davis- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 09:40:39 -0600 (CST) From: "Joseph L. Casey" Subject: rumor of exhaust brake There has been some indication that Ford was going to offer an exhaust brake for the 1999s about mid-year, which I assume to be this summer or fall. I will appreciate any new information or rumor that might come forward. ------------------------------ End of fordtrucks97up-digest V1 #19 *********************************** ======================================================================= Ford Truck Enthusiasts....
