Brand new to this one, though I'm on three other FTE lists, all in digest mode. Subscribed to ask a question. Since I'm brand new, this may have been endlessly covered, but how would I know? (I know, the archives, but this is much quicker.) 1999, V-10, pings a lot just before shift points. Dealer says "normal". I'd like to say BS, but not if it is, indeed, "normal". Anybody know the straight stuff? Anybody got an aftermarket program for the computer that fixes this? Thanks, And now back to our regularly scheduled stuff...... -Marv- '70 F-250 C/S '89 F-250 Utility (Brother's '99) ------------------------------ From: George Rigney Subject: Re: Brand New to List Date: Tue, 4 Apr 2000 07:57:39 -0500 Dear Marv, I've never heard ours ping. I doubt if that's normal. What kind of gas are you using? Have you added a Superchip, a supercharger, or any other aftermarket stuff? I've been on this list for years and I have never heard anyone complain of pinging in a Triton engine. There is a known problem with piston slap, but it occurs when the engine is cold, not before shift points. What part of the country do you live in? That is, what's your climate like? The only time I hear pinging is when we stop and the engine is cooling off or if we pass through a big puddle. Good luck with your problem.
