Otherwise I'd look at getting a different truck. "Allemand, Andre'" wrote: > I have a standard transmission. Can it be replaced with an automatic..? I would use either Redline D4ATF if you can get it, or Amsoil second, and then mobil or valvoline. I usually did a change after every race and it came out clean and no burn smells.=, yea it can get expensive, lol. Brian 97 F150 ORP 4.6 and 4R70W == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 22:46:36 -0600 From: jmann Subject: RE: FTE 97up - Warranties and Perf. Mods Brian, Here is a post from the performance list that got me thinking about shoring up the 4R70W. But I have much more research to do. From: FLR150 Joe, I must have missed your earlier post on this subject. I also have the 4R70W trans. in my 300+ HP 5.0 powered 1994 Supercab. I contacted Art Carr about the problems with this transmission. In reality this trans. is actually an AODE with a better 1st gear ratio. The total parts cost to make this tranny virtually bulletproof was a little over $500 and then of course you have to figure in the labor to install it. The rebuild kit basically contained a stronger drum assembly with more clutches, Torrington bearings and other internal parts, it also would be a wise idea to buy the Art Carr valve body kit. I made the mistake of putting in the Transgo kit and I am not really happy with it. I sold the Art Carr kit to a buddy of mine for his 4R70W and after installation the tranny woke right up. It shifts better then my Transgo equipped trans. and the temps stay steady, whereas mine has various temp readings. If you want more info and part numbers, Email me off list and I can send them to you. Again my 5.0 is putting out over 300+ HP to the rear wheels and I have yet to have a problem with the trans. since the rebuild using the Art Carr parts. I compete in the Fun Ford Weekend Top Truck class, 2nd in the points for the nation, and also race my truck regularly on the weekends. Plus I am a Maintenance Supervisor for an apartment complex and have my truck loaded regularly. Hope I have helped, Wayne Foy - -----Original Message----- From: Brrojo Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 1999 5:31 PM To: 97up-list Subject: Re: FTE 97up - Warranties and Perf.
