I am considering purchasing a 1997 F250 with 5.4L V8. I
would like to see a HP & Torque graph to compare against the
GM 5.3 & 5.7. Any one have this data or know where I could

Ok Guys,

The fight for the 4R100 (code 44E) transmission on my 2000 F150 5.4 SC
Flareside Lariat 4x4 is over, and I lost. My last ditch effort was to try
to order the CA Emissions pkg., code 422, which would give me the stronger
tranny. But that didn't work either. I even spoke with a "supervisor" at
Ford Customer Service and told him I would be relocated to CA in 2 two 3
months and he told me that it could be done and even recommended I do it so
that I wouldn't have to pay the CA emissions penalty. But the dealer here in
Austin, Covert Ford, still came back and said I needed to have a permanent
address in CA.

I give! I'll just live with the 4R70W tranny and just hope it survives the
Kenne Bell Supercharger (an extra 80 hp).

Take a look at this website. Look at the 2000 F-150 info. On page 10 of the
2000f150.pdf file is says that with order code 93N, Vehicles MUST be
registered in California or Northeast States. Since you live in Texas, you
might want to ask your dealer about his? In the same paragraph, it says that
this is for vehicles not being delivered to California or Northeast States.
Since my vehicle will be delivered to a Northeast State, I hope I don't have
a problem. It's already on my order!

Hi folks,

I have a couple of things I would like to run by everyone, in case someone
can give me some pointers:

I have a '99 reg cab F-150 4x4, 4.6L, auto, 3.73 LS longbed...anyway, the
following things have cropped up recently...the truck has approx 8000
primarily highway miles on it:

1) Upon startup, I often get a cloud of blue smoke. Occasionally, this is a
very large cloud, putting to shame my 18 year-old 2-cycle lawn mower.

2) Since I bought the truck there has been driveline vibration at idle when
in gear.

3) About 2 days ago I noticed a ticking noise upon startup that seems to be
coming from the front of the engine bay...this lasts a minute ot two.

I contacted the dealer some months ago about the vibration....got the good
old 'could not duplicate'... Several days ago, I called about the smoking.
The answer was.."they all do that"....Baloney! I don't buy that one, since
the only vehicle I have had over the last 20 years that did that was a '74
International Travelall w/140k in bad need of a ring job. I have not
contacted dealer yet about the ticking noise...

Can anyone give me some pointers here? I really like the truck, and it seems
to run fine, but I'm wondering if these problems are omens of poor long-term
reliability. I bought this truck as a third vehicle and was planning on
keeping it for 10-15 years..probably putting on 10-15k a year..

This may be too late...but how about getting that supervisor to call the
dealer you are buying the truck from and have him tell them that it is OK to
order that package.

Interesting idea, but I don't know that what the 4R100 would give me is
worth that much trouble.

What I can't figure out is why they put the 4R100 in the CA truck and the
4R70W in all the others, accept maybe in the North Eastern States. What the
in the hecks the difference?

Hey Joe,
I just called two local ford dealers and explained as much of your
situation
as I could and the reply was this........you could place your order through
any
california dealer and then then only additional cost would be destination
charges. Your biggest problem with this would be to either come to
California
to close your deal or have a Power of Attorney but, considering your
position
on such a truck, if you dont want to settle for what they'll give you ( I
wouldnt either)
I would hop a cheap flight into Ontario or Burbank and close your deal.
Also, just as an added note, as of 1989 all vehicles must meet federal
emission
standards. There is no physical difference that I am aware of in the
manufacturing
of vehicles. Matter of fact you could go to your local dealer and look at
the
emmisions sticker under the hood and read for yourself that the vehicle
meets
CA emission stds.

Anyone have any suggestions for a plate on a F250SD PSD 4x4, that sounds

jet-plane everyone says.
I guess that 5in exhaust and no-cat really makes it takeoff.  Everytime i
leave work at airport i call for clearance,lol!



Personally, mine just says "97F150" and I get comments all the time on it.
Again personally, if I had a diesel, I would try for "TRBODSL" (turbodiesel)
or "PWRSTRK" (powerstroke). Since it sounds like a jet, I don't know how the
cops would like a plate that says "FLYLOW". Just a suggestion. :)
