I just got done speaking with my brother who works on the 4R100 production line in Cincinnati. He pretty much confirmed the info below. I spoke with the service manager at my dealer here in Austin, as well, and he said that the 4R100s are better. Also, I spoke with Ford Customer Service, 800-426-1283, and they confirmed that you CAN order the 44E on an F-150 Lariat and XLT. She described the 44E as a 5.4L with a 4 speed overdrive tranny. Although, they could not confirm that it was the 4R100, they did say the column that the 44E/U code appears in, is the "transmission" column. Joe Sent: Tuesday, October 05, 1999 12:44 PM To: jmann Subject: RE: FTE 97up - 4R100 The 4R100 is supposed to be a much stronger Tranny. It is the exact tranny used in the f-150 lightning and all the F-250/350 superdutys. I really believe that the 44U (4R70W) is a much weaker tranny. It's based off the old AOD and AOD4 tranny Ford used to make. The 4R100 is based off the E4OD truck tranny that was used on all F-150's with the 5.8L back in the early to mid 1990's. The E4OD was also used on the 1993-1995 F-150 Lightning. Try to get the 44E tranny is you can. You will be happier in the long run. Definitly if you plan on supercharging it. That's my $.02. Ford Truck Enthusiasts has once again outgrown the capacity of our server. We are in the process of ordering a fractional T1 line which will allow us to host the site directly from our home. The time to install is approximately 60+ days. This will give us a ton of extra capacity and allow us to offer many more features to our users because our web space will increase to 10+ gigabytes. Currently, we use about the same "constant" bandwidth of a 64k ISDN channel and a peak bandwidth of 5 ISDN channels. Our new capacity will be about 8 ISDN channels with peak allowances of 10 channels. In the meantime, our server has gotten slower and we've taken steps that should have an immediate improvement beginning this evening. Ford Truck Enthusiasts is now operating on two servers instead of one. The second server reduces the load on our current system by about 40%. Expect to see dramatic improvements in speed. The second server gives us an additional 350 meg of drive space. The list archives will be brought back on line in the next week! Our costs have skyrocketed over the last 6 months. We'll be having a big holiday season sale and a special promotion in order to pay for all this. As always, the goal of this is to keep the system free for you and the mailing lists free from ads. The sale will be conducted on the web site, not the lists. Those of you who've been with us a while (Hi Deacon!) know that I believe in keeping everyone informed as to our status.
