Okay, got the magazine in front of me now. It is the October 1999 issue of
Car & Driver. The article is "Chips Ahoy" on p. 131. Chip mfg's include:

Superchips, Inc.
AutoThority Performance Engineering
Dinan
Hypertech, Inc.
JET Performance Products

Hope this helps the curious ones out there to find the article. No way I
can do it justice with a summary so I won't even try.

Best regards,
Steve O.

Thanks guys,

I'm going to the dealer next week and ask him if I can change the multi-function
switch.

Keith, is that what you mean by the new stalk?

TIA.

I want to share an experience I had this morning.

I was waiting to use the on-ramp to I-25 North (181 exit) to Denver from
Castle Rock. An 18 wheeler fully loaded with roofing shingles started out
ahead of me. I am always curteous to traffic and let the 18 wheeler have
1/4 mile headstart. I was holding back this Ch*vy Su8ur8An, that was just
too damn anxious. He even attempted to pass me on the On-Ramp, So I had to
punch it earlier that I wanted. Just to keep that Ch*vy in line.

I left the largest cloud of Soot you ever saw. By the time I reached 4th
Gear (6-Speed Manual) I lost ALL power. I backed off to see what the
problem was, I scanned the gauges, All read normal(I won't go off on the
idiot gauges here). My first impreession at this time, "I blew all the
vanes of the Turbo". It did not act like a waste gate.

I took the next exit and looked for Oil/smoke/other problems. At first scan
I saw nothing. I would not get any satisfaction at my dealer at 6:00AM, so
I drove the F350 home.

I looked at the engine thoroughly and finally found the problem. I blew the
feed pipe that runs to the Intercooler from the Turbo. It was just the Band
Clamp was too Loose. An 11mm socket later and I was on the road again. My
Boost gauge does not have illumination so I could never have read the Boost
Pressure that I was developing at night. I have never ran the Boost over 18
PSI. I don't know why today was any different. Maybe just cooler more
dense air this morning, I don't know.

My findings on the PSD without the assist of a turbo -

"A BIG FAT OLD LAZY DAWG, just after he eats"

Later guys,

Scott.

Ever since I changed the spark plugs on my 97 F150 4.6L, it has quite a bit
of loss in power, especially at low RPM's. I don't know what I really could
have done wrong, but the power loss is pretty significant to me. The trans
now downshifts on even slight hills when I have it on cruise. Anybody have
any ideas of what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Chris,

Did you use the correct plugs? Is the gap set correctly?
Did you change the wires? Did you remove anything to access
the plugs? Did you put it back?

Regards

Totally off the subject, I am reminded of a shop in Austin which told me to
change the spark plug wires of the 5.4 often. (Which is amusing, as the
5.4 is coil-on plug.)

Usually this requires replacement of the multipurpose stalk. I think it has
been replaced on 6 of my 8 Fords, some twice.

Mine comes out as almost as soon as you press the button. On all my cars it
works this way. you may have a kink in the line or a restriction.

Yes! Sorry, I had forgotton the proper name, "multi-function switch", so I
just called it like I saw it...."stalk".
