But in a combination of an improved exhaust system and intake some improvement can be seen. I was offered 2 options: 1. I could wait in the hope that a fix would became available (at least as long as my warrantee would allow) 2. Ford would replace the existing engine with a factory rebuilt engine. I decided to let time go by in hope that a fix would become available but I am now only 3000 miles away from warrantee expiration and so I approached my dealer earlier this week and asked him for an update. I suggested I would be much happier with a new engine, not a rebuilt one if engine replacement was the only option. He talked to Ford and had the following to report: They could not install a NEW engine because of engineering changes made to the 99's. Apparently Ford is still working on a fix for the problem and accordingly they will extend my work order for another 3 months from today (regardless of mileage) in the hope that a fix will be found soon. They are apparently testing some potential fixes at this time. Because I prefer to keep my original engine if possible (the existing engine burns absolutely Zero oil between changes) I will continue to wait for a fix if possible. I am concerned that a rebuilt may not have been treated as well as the one I have and I will be in worse shape over the long haul. If a fix is not found in the next 3 months, I will have no alternative but to have the current engine replaced with a rebuilt one under warrantee from Ford. Your comments are welcome. When I bought my 1998 F150 Supercab the salesman told me "The Air In This Truck Is 30% Cleaner Than The AIr Outside". He told me that the air conditioning and ventilation system had a filtration system on it. I havent seen anything in the owners manual about this type of arrangement. I am also curious.... If there is such a system.....is there a filter that should be changed on a regular basis. Just curious if anyone out there has heard of this..... The normal F-150 has 235 (now 260) horsepower? Why doesn't Ford put the lighting engine in all the F-150's? The only reason I could think of is maybe the Lightning enggine doesn't have as much torque.
