I have a 97 F150, equipped with the remote keyless entry system. What purpose
does the Auto lock feature serve?
thanks

On my 1997 EB Expedition, it will automatically lock all the doors at 3 MPH in
Drive. I back outta my garage (doors are unlocked), put it in drive and in a
couple of seconds the doors all lock. When I exit the vehicle, you just pull
up on the inside door handle and the door unlocks. It's great, no more
messing with the power door lock switch. The rear doors stay locked until
you press the unlock button. (guess this is for kids in the rear (if i had
any....))

Would someone email me those instructions for activating / deactivating
the Power Door Lock auto lock feature? I messed up and deleted it,
rather than saving it...it was before I had my first cup of coffee!!

I'd appreciate the effort immensely.
Thanks,

good lord! I've not had one of those problems yet! I guess Im pretty
fortunate... I have a 98 f150 supercab 4.6L v8, and so far the only problem
I've had with it is that the sliding rear window was leaking just slightly,
so I had them reseal it... I'd ask your dealer how much they would buy back
your truck for, and just get a new one...

I'm familiar with a few of these, but would be interested in more
information about a couple of the others. Can you give me some more on the
problem/symptoms for these:

4*** brakes: ford redesigned brake pads
10*** clunk: well you know about this one
12*** transmission leak: tranny fluid leaks into transfer case filling
transfer case

Thanks,

Same thing on my '98 F-150, except the doors lock as soon as the truck moves
in either direction and your foot's off the brake. They lock with the
slightest movement, as long as the brake's off.

It is a little hard for me to believe this long list of problems with the 97
150.

I have had mine some thirty months, have over 40,000 miles on it and after
my dealer put heavier grease in the steering gear, have had no problems,
whatsoever.

I am always dubious of such reports, and wonder if Steve sells GM products
or Dodges. If a pickup needs leveling, it will the right side that is
higher, the driver and gas tank are on the left side. I have had several
Chevrolet that were lower because of a 200+lb. driver and 200 lb. of fuel.

My sons 97, F150 has had a lot of problems, most were minor in the shop one day
type fixes, but it was in the first time 3 days for loose parts in the front
end suspension, and was in 2 times to have a new rear end, one time taking 5
days and the 2nd time in for 7 days. Just came out of the shop a week ago, in 3
days to have both rear spring replaced. The truck has 28k on it. So I think
its was far from trouble free. Oh by the way, I work for Ford Motor Company.

brakes: my brakes would grab real hard at first and seem to self adjust
so i asked the dealer to check it out and they installed what they
called a "brake pad upgrade" what that means and/or does i don't know
but the problem is gone
clunk: when starting from a dead stop i could here a clunk in the drive
train the dealer told me that it was a yoke off of the drive shaft was
not lubricated properly at the factory, they replaced it
transmission leak: last winter in about 6 weeks i went through 4 quarts
of tranny fluid i told the dealer they said there is a seal between the
tranny and the tranfer case that went bad and the tranfer case was full
in the door jam on the drivers side there is a sticker that gives the
date the date on mine is "1/96" i think that this is part of my problem.
don't misunderstand i love this truck it is the best ride i have ever
owned and i do not sell chevrolet or dodge, and i am not about to own a
chev or dodge. if you look at the T.S.B's for the 97 ford trucks at
http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/ and compare to the 98 ford
trucks the list is shorter for the 98's ('98=4 technical service
bulletins) ('97=143 technical service bulletins). so glenn see if you....
