I've been after Ford for my "rough" idling 97 f150 5.4L since shortly after I got it last July. It now has 13,000 miles and I've had the engine replaced due to piston slap, and it still has the same problem. Ford says they are aware of the problem and "are working" on a solution. What has your experience been. How about anyone else out there? Idle comfort is not high, but overall performance is good == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jun 1998 13:21:58 EDT From: ROBBCWZ Subject: FTE 97up - Performance FYI I have an E-350 van with the V-10 Triton, 17,000 miles and usually rides with 12 to 14 folks onboard. Overall average has been 11-to-12 mpg. The last 3-tanks have given 13.4mpg. From: Bill Subject: Re: FTE 97up - Performance I was talking to a guy yesterday with a V-10 and 3.73 rear end F-250, he pulls a 4 horse trailer and when loaded he's getting 8 and 9 mpg, running without the trailer on open road about 12 mpg. Reports pulling power is good, but thinks with the same load in mountains the 4. something rear would be a better choice. He hates the outside mirrors as every bump in the road they move. That's all I have to offer. This means that if you don't have a VIN for your truck this color will not be available. More news on the New colors. Sometime in August Dark Wedgwood Blue will be available (LL) and also Dark Toreador Red (JL). The Violet color was not on the list so I look for it to get discontinued also. I thought I remembered "hydro boost" brakes specified, but I got vacuum booster delivered...and it doesn't work! (I do have an apointment for tuesday, to see if there is any fix.) I got out my window sticker...it specifies under FUNCTIONAL: HYDRO BOOST BRAKES. I the went to the dealer, checked his spec book:1999 SUPER DUTY F-350 CHASSIS CAB, MAJOR STANDARD EQUIPMENT, Pg#2, 2-2-98..."BRAKES (4X4): Power vacuum boost(3), footnote(3):NA with diesel engine or DRW, diesel engine or DRW receive power hydro-boost." According to this, I should have hydro-boost, but I have vacuum...which doesn't stop with a load. Did the specs change? My dealer still uses this book. Originally, I heard it was for people who own a Ford that they bought new, but the commercials I've seen lately haven't been clear about that, especially the offbreed commercials. Although I have owned two new Ford's in the past four years, I currently drive a used one ('95 model). Anyone have the official guidelines, Nathan, to help me out? This list is for performance issues, all years are covered. Off-topic posts will be strictly enforced with this list as I do not want it to take content away from the other lists. If you want to talk about milage, towing, looks, etc, post to the appropriate group. If you want to talk about HP, torque, hot-rodding, building strong engines, etc, then this is the group (although these issues can be covered in the existing groups too). This group was started so members can tap into the vast knowledge base we have - some of which transcends year/models. List member Keith Srb will be administering this list so please send administrative questions to him at herbie You can subscribe by sending email to majordomo with one of the following in the BODY of the message: subscribe perf subscribe perf-digest Or as an alternative, you can use the subscribe form on the web site.
