I have recently tried Mobil 1 synthetic in my 5.4L Expedition and it
works exceptionally well. It reduces engine startup knock
dramatically. When I talk to the seemingly well informed staff at Mr.
Lube they said definitely not to use synthetic until after the first
10,000kms or 6,000 miles.

Smokey of Popular Science who is a developer for all of the auto
manufacturers says that Mobile One is the better of the oils. Also, he says
(if I remember correctly) that 30,000 miles is the time to change to the
Mobil one synthetic. Since he wrote that article I could presume that oils,
and other criteria could have changed. Maybe there is a site on the net that
would provide his opinion.
