Mark,
I'm old enough to remember the bad old days when there was no such thing as a
recall and new vehicle warranties were for 90 days to 6 months long. If you
had a Cadillac or a Lincoln or an Imperial and you had done business with the
dealer for a few years you might get a loaner for a day or two if you were a
doctor. I'm just damn grateful for these recalls and long warranties. I'll
turn my truck in for recall work when its most convenient to me. Butch Davis-

This is pretty standard with all auto companies. I don't
see how a dealer could possibly offer a loaner to hundred
(thousands?) of people coming in with recall notices.

I've installed two so far. An Avital in my 94 Ranger and DesignTech on the wife's
Prizm. I didn't put one in my 97 250HD, but plan on one my 99 250 SD V-10. I liked
the Avital a little better because it disables the starter when the vehicle is
running off the unit. Then again the DesignTech allowed me to switch the car over to
the unit while already running and remove the key. Great for the convenience store
on a hot summer day.

The Ranger was still under warrantee at the time and the dealer never said a word
about it. I can't speak for the excuse factor, but in reality their should not be
problems with transient spikes. The box only connects to 12v sources and 12v
devices. I could see a problem if needed to connect to a 5v computer component and
you were depending on the remote starter to step down the voltage or working with AC
which can induce voltages, but it's not the case. You're just manipulating 12vdc to
start your car.

AS far as AC... I've always left it on in both vehicles in the summer. Otherwise
the remote starter was fairly useless to me. It's never been a problem. I believe
most AC compressors today have a built in delay so as to allow the engine to start
before engaging.

Don't know of a Dodge group but the Dodge trucks after 93 have brake
problems when used (Auto tranny also). The best help we have found (we had
a lot of people switch in 94 and switch back due to these problems so we got
to learn how to get them going again) is to make sure the rear brakes get
deglazed OFTEN!. Also the Carbon metallic front pads help some, but the
only real fix we've found is to crank up the trailer brakes so they do more
work than normal. Also keep an eye on the front rotors, they usually go bad
(on new style Dodge) when the pads are bad.

The new Triton's are designed to be able to run with no coolant! :) As far as oil
pressure, I did see an intelligent idea used on a motor home with a 460. However it
would be harder to apply it to a fuel injected motor. Anyway they (John Deere)
hooked the fuel pump up to the oil sending unit and the start (not run) side if the
ignition switch. This way the fuel pump only got juice while starting and when there
was enough oil pressure to satisfy the sending unit. Also, because they controlled
the fuel pump this way and not the ignition, allowed for small pressure hiccups
without killing the motor. You know, like if you're in the middle of a 1.5g turn in
the motor home and the sump sucks a little air. :)

I don't think those are worthwhile solutions to Nathan's points, but though it was
interesting info none the less.

Has anyone found any Running boards for a 1999 Super Duty? I can get nerf
bars, Diamond plate and painted boards (and others from Ford) for them but
haven't found any of the normal Extruded aluminum or Stainless boards. Dee
Zee has the style I normally sell (extruded FX) but they have been telling
me it will be two more weeks for the past three months. So any help would
be appreciated!

Well guys there's one good dealer in Ann Arbor, Michigan, sells the Lincoln and
will pick your Lincoln up within 50 miles and leave you a new Lincoln to drive
with a full tank of gas, when warranty repairs have been made to your car they
return the car and pick up the loaner. You have to love a dealer like that!
These recalls are getting out of hand, its only done to keep the government off
there backs. Next time you buy a $34K truck demand a free loaner be wrote into
the sale agreement, if the dealer wouldn't do it try another dealer (sometimes it
works). Take anything back to K-Mart and exchange it no questions ask, auto
dealers sure should be able to spring for a car of some kind to drive. Several in
the lower Michigan will, but you have to let it be known you expect it and will
not settle for less.
