From: Ken Payne
Subject: FTE 97up - ADMIN: Off to Pigeon Forge

We're off to the 21st Annual F100 Supernationals in Pigeon
Forge, Tennessee. List make will be retrieved daily (bringing
the laptop) but questions to the admin or requests will not
be answered until Monday, May 17th unless its an emergency.

In addition to meeting many of the FTE's we're making this
a vacation for the wife and myself (grandmother is coming over
to watch the kids) so if anyone who shows up is willing to
watch the table for an hour or so it would really be appreciated.

We're bringing FTE t-shirts and window stickers with us in
case you want one. Also, if you've driven your Ford truck to
the show, please see us at the FTE / Georgia LoRider area --
we're giving away a free static window sticker to all FTEs
who drive their truck. Trucks with an FTE static sticker will
be judged for a "Best of Show" trophy that we're bringing
(its a nice trophy!). Any year/model is acceptable for
judging. Additionally, we're giving out free tickets to
FTE members -- there will be a "door prize" of a t-shirt,
window sticker, FTE email address and web space (email address
and web space will be for one year).

Lastly, we've been pretty slack with getting the prize packs
(a free t-shirt and email address for one year) to those who
submitted a design last fall. If you're one of the people
who submitted a design, please see us at the show or email
us your address (I know, I know... we asked for this before
but we lost the information).

See ya there, we're leaving now.....

I was the first list that I was about to install the Intermediate Pipe
Replacemnet, but have not done it to date. I have a 172" wb and the pipe
suggested by Nathan is about 2" short. So I'm buying a 24" extension pipe
to weld on the other 2 inches. I don't start the project until I research
and measure everything. I hate to do a job twice because of not knowing the
full picture. I'm all for that Turbo spinning quicker, It does have just a
slight lag.

Subject: FTE 97up - X changes for 2000

With all this talk about Y2K model changes, I haven't seen anything about
mechanical changes. Changes we all have heard are probably coming. Such
as...

* 260hp 5.4L and 300+hp 6.8L engines on Super Duty Trucks.
* 240hp 4.6L engine on F-150 trucks (already available on the Expedition)
* The rumored 270hp 5.4L for the F-150
* automatic 4WD on the F-150 (like the Expy) to match GM (they already
matched the disc brakes)

Are we not getting these upgrades or do we have to wait until later for news
on mechanical changes?

Thanks!

From: "Keith Veren"
Subject: FTE 97up - The Case of the Missing Weatherstrips

As most people on the Ford Trucks Enthusiasts site already know, some F-250
and F-350 SuperDuty pick-ups were made and sold without the thick rubber
weatherstripping on the bottom of each door. The vehicles most likely to be
missing the weatherstrips are those with the factory running boards. Mine
were missing from all 4 doors on my F-350 SuperCab (see below for vehicle
description). I confirmed that they should be there by looking at the
bottom of my doors and noting the mounting holes lined-up across the bottom
of each door. Additionally, I went to the WorkShop Manual, page #501-03-2
and #501-03-3 and saw an exploded view of the doors illustrating the
weatherstrip [they list it as "Front Door Lower Weatherstrip", part number
20758] and showing the proper location. So, I called my buddy down at
Acton Ford's parts department and he said that he would get them as soon as
possible. He did, they came today after only 1-1/2 weeks.

Happily, I took them home, opened the doors and proceeded to thoroughly
clean and wax the bottom of the doors on the inside and the part of the body
where the bottom edge of the door will close onto. I opened the packages,
there are 2 long one (for the front doors) and 2 shorter ones (short rear
doors in SuperCab). As I went to install them (which only mean pushing the
attached little blue pins into the holes on the bottom of the door and
pushing them in until they "snap" in place) I noticed that they would fit
either of two orientations, one upside-down of the other. The proper way
they should be oriented was not immediately apparent to me at the time, so I
thought...hmmmmm. I will look at the wife's Explorer (description below) and
see how those are oriented. When I looked, I saw that the Explorer uses a
different type of system with different attachments, so that was no help.
Then I thought...hmmmm...maybe I will look at my Expedition (description
below), surely that will have weatherstrips like the SuperDuty pick-up.
When I went to look, I was taken aback by the lack of any lower
weatherstrips on the doors and the placement of mounting holes just like on
my SuperDuty pick-up!! Well, to finish...I finally figured out the proper
orientation of the weatherstrips for the SuperDuty and installed them. What
a world of difference! The doors even sound better and feel better when
closing them! Now, I guess that I will have to call my buddy at Acton Ford
once again and have him order (under warrantee, of course) 4 lower door
weatherstrips for the Expy. This is the third time I learned something on
the Ford Truck Enthusiast site that helped me with the Expedition!
