I live in Tucson, AZ so it doesn't get much hotter than this! If you're thinking, "Yeah, but it is a dry heat!" you'd be right about 10 months out of the year. BUT, I bought this truck August 1st, in the middle of our monsoons. During July and August we have temperatures in the 100s and humidity to go with it. I use the AC max setting and high fan for a couple of minutes to cool down the vehicle after setting in the sun and then go to the AC setting and low fan after three or four miles. Hope this helps and I hope you get your ACs fixed! For a 99 PowerStoke: Part number 961 and a dealer cost of $170 when ordered with the truck. What's the expected price if you order it from the dealer, after the truck is in hand? Here's what I believe are the individual part numbers. 12K526 bracket 14A649 Cable 12B640 Control module Is there a different part number that this should be ordered under? A ludicrous price quote I've heard is in the vicinity of $750.00! This can't be correct. Very Cold. I never have to leave it on pass 40% strength long before I turn it all the way down. Is there some difference in the A/C system Ford puts in these >two trucks? Anyone been having any A/C problems of their own? > Are you talking about the air actually coming out of the vents, or the overall temperature in the cab? If it's the latter, a crew cab has a lot of area to cool. It will take longer to get the air in the cab to cool down, compared to a reg. cab, or even a super cab. >Just read a post where someone put an after-market chip in their truck. Aftermarket add ons can only void the warranty if it can be proven the part caused the problem. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Sep 1998 13:26:47 -0500 From: Kenneth_Johnson Subject: FTE 97up - Dual exhuast systems I own a '97 F-150 with a 5.4l V-8. I'm looking to install a dual exhuast system, not real loud but loud enough to let the other guy know you've got someting under the hood. I'd like to get some feed back on what others have tried, what they like about it and approximate cost to have installed. Thanks for your help. I called the Superchips company and they claim their chip adds ~30 hp. and 46 ft./lbs. of torque for around $495. That is rather expensive in my opinion. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Sep 1998 14:36:19 -0700 From: Jay Murphy Subject: FTE 97up - Anyone know of where to get sports related hitch covers? He says should be in low-mid 40s. I have posted before that my F-350 SD DRW had a vacuum brake booster & had weak brakes. The order book & window sticker stated that the truck had "Hydro Boost" brakes. I finally got someone at Ford to agree that the truck was built wrong & they are authorizing the changeout to Hrdro boost. For anyone that wanted to do their own, say on a single wheel truck where the vacuum boost is std, it is a relatively simple changeout. Just swap the vacuum booster for a Hydro boost unit, change power steering hoses & power steering fluid resiviour. Master cyl, pedal linkage & power steering pump are not changed. I have appointment for this & the A/C prob next week. My newest '97 is a XLT 4X4 offroad. The one thing I can brag about is the ac in all these trucks will cool the vehicle off in no time. I live in Atlanta so humidity is ALL TOO common. I use the ac non-stop 6 months out of the year. Every time its ice cold, even in the morning traffic I'm in every day. I never put it on max ac, there is no need I only put it on ac and turn it two clicks. Sorry to hear about the troubles in the heavy duties. I have a converter after the muffler (which is a flow master) into duals. I also put on some crome tips. Its not terrible loud but when the rpms hit 2,500 and above you can really hear my Triton kicking. From behind ideling it sounds tough--its not too loud and its not too quiet. Definitly put a 2 chamber flowmaster on it if nothing else. Would anyone who owns a similar truck take a few moments to discuss their personal experience with this type of truck? I am interested in the good, as well as the bad. Would someone explain what the PTO and Idle Control options could be used for? Thanks, David == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html....
