I've heard and read to much about the negative qualities of these additives toever use them again. If you really want teh best for your engine now that it is broken in try a high quality synthetic such as Mobil 1 as I do. As for the tranny it doesn't need it, routine maintenance is fine. If you really want to take care of it upgrade to a larger tranny cooler. Also auxilary filter kits are available for both auto trannies and engines that run the fluids through two filters instead of one, both are going on my truck. Summit and Jegs carries them. Hope this helps Bryan ______________________________________________________ == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Jul 1998 21:41:19 -0400 From: Neil Stahl Subject: FTE 97up - Transmission to Buy? Folks, I'm about to order a 450 diesel crew cab 4x4. We are going to become full-time RV'rs, pulling a 7 ton + fifth wheel. Probably the truck will do that a day or two about every two weeks, otherwise it will be our running-around vehicle. My wife would prefer an automatic, but would drive the standard. I prefer standard transmissions in general, but have never driven a rig nearly as heavy as this will be with the trailer on. We expect to be in lots of kinds of terrain, including mountains. I'd appreciate comments from people with the experience to give good advice on the advantages or disadvantages of each transmission for our kind of usage. ALSO: on a newsgroup someone said if you get a 4x4 you should get limited-slip differential. Comments? I've seen a list of options and l.-s.d. doesn't seem to be one. Anyone know if that's true? Thanks. He explained that ford does not have a new design yet on lug nuts and when they do, it will take a little while to make 50 million of them. Important thing is that they are doing the checking of the lugnuts without a recall letter. Guess we will get a letter when lug nuts are in stock. NATHAN---question---when we buy a used ford truck under warranty--how does the company know it has been transferred so the new owner (me) gets the recall letters? - --------------------------- Date: Mon, 6 Jul 1998 06:24:00 -0700 (PDT) From: Carlos Lawton Subject: FTE 97up - 97 Wheels falling off Is Ford supposed to be performing the recall work concerning the wheels falling off? My co-worker just had his rear wheel fall off, but he never got a recall letter. My dealer told me "we don't have the parts yet, so all we're doing is tightening the lug nuts" Doesn't it seem like this is a serious problem that needs to be corrected before someone gets killed? == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Jul 1998 22:19:11 -0700 (PDT) From: Steven Baker Subject: FTE 97up - Aftermarket concole computer? I bought the 1999 XLT Powerstroke package to commute back and forth from work. I am trying to get the best milage that I can and starting to wish I would have spent the extra money for the Lariat, which comes with the onboard computer. So here is my question. The slot for it is in my dash -- does anyone know how much it would be to add one of these aftermarket? Is it relatively simply or would it involve too much? Thanks, everyone, for all of the continued help since I joined this list.
