I am in the flat lands of Florida which probably helps. I have a question about the 5.4l engine. When accelerating there seems to be a noise that almost sounds like pinging coming from the engine. I am used to the old style 302,351,390 engines and have had little experience with fuel injected overhead cam engines so I don't know if this is a normal sound or if I should be concerned something may be wrong. Any advise would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know what kind of gas mileage I can expect with 3.73 gears and automatic trans? thanks Aaron == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 08:52:56 -0600 (MDT) From: tekneek Subject: Re: FTE 97up - 5.4 engine noise Hi Aaron, MY powerstroke has 100 miles still on full, can't tell of milage on yours, the 3.73 is a good rear end,the larger tires and the way truck rolls so freelywill be easy on gas I'm sure. == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 11:48:47 -0500 From: Paul Olson Subject: Re: FTE 97up - 5.4 engine noise I am no expert, but my guess is that your engine may be running too advanced. The EEC tries to run the engine as advanced as possible. There are knock sensors that should detect that ping and back off a little. Maybe something isn't working correctly in that circuit. Just a guess. I would check it out, because if this is the problem it will shorten your engine life. If you have the luck I have it will last until the warranty is expired and then die. Anyway, I hope this helps. Aaron_Kovach > I just brought home my new 99 F250 SD 4X4 last week and I love it. I play in the sand duns with my 4x4 (5 speed) and although the Jet was better over stock I was allways bumping against the revlimiter (5500 rpm) going up the hill. It was either shift and loose speed going up or try to make it up the hill in 3rd 4x4Lo. Superchips reprogrammed the revlimiter to 6500 rpm and removed the top speed limiter also. My .02 Regards Jean Marc Chartier == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 22:40:04 -0400 From: Ken Payne Subject: FTE 97up - Should I c*ncel my SD order? Forwarded for: Joe Zuk I ordered my truck back in April and I have been hearing a few rumors that if true may make me c*ncel my order. So if you know if these are true or not please let me know: - - V10 are sold out for 98 and are not being made any more. - - No more 4x4 will be made until Sept. Now I have asked my dealer about these and he said he has heard nothing about these being true. But he also told me 3 weeks ago that the plant would not be closing in July, now he saying that it will. So if you guys know the truth please pass it along, right now my confidence in my dealer is low. When I order this he said it would be here by June, well June almost gone and I still don't have the truck. Thanks, Joe == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 23:49:05 EDT From: Dirtracr7 Subject: Re: FTE 97up - Should I c*ncel my SD order?
