Piston slap is a clattering noise made by the piston... How do I explain this... Then piston ideally sits perfectly parallel to the bore. If the piston skirt was too short or the tolerance between the piston and the bore was too large, the piston could 'wobble' (We're not talking a lot, but enough to make noise). When this happens, the corners can 'slap' the cylinder walls, make a clatter like noise. What I don't understand is, I have read that Ford was putting Hypereutectic Pistons in it's Triton motors and was using a new production method that allowed for tighter tolerances in the cylinder wall, for less blow by and more oil control without increased friction. All of that should render piston slap almost inconceivable. I would have thought anyway. BTW, does anyone know (or experienced) if this problem extends into the V-10, being as it is basically the same motor with 2 additional cylinders. Thanks, Chad Logerman > btw, what is engine slap == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jun 1998 13:09:04 -0400 From: ray Subject: FTE 97up - 97 F-150 Manual Purchase Does anybody have an address or a phone # for the purpose of purchasing an 1997 F-150 Service Manual.
