I have ordered a 1999 F-350 SD, SRW, Crewcab, Lariat, V-10, LS differential with virtually every other option known to God and Ford. (The truck will replace the Chevy S-10 I've been driving for the last thirteen years and I am almost salivating to get this black and chrome monster in my hands.) Dealer said to expect delivery in 90 days or so and added that it had been coded a "Priority 19" in an effort to get it built as soon as possible. Anybody know what a "Priority 19" means (if anything)? It may be a good compromise between the F150 and F250SD and it may have a better manual tranny than the F150. Here's a fairly throrough explanation that Nathan sent awhile back. Depending on what your dealer typically orders at, "19" may or may not be a good thing. I your case, the dealer implies that 19 *is* good. - -john The Priority code on an order reflects in what order a dealer wants things built. They range from 10 to 99. A vehicle ordered as a priority 99 can't be built by Ford. Anything else is buildable. Ford allocates a number of vehicles to a dealer (Weekly for small dealers, Monthly for Large dealers). Note this means you get a vehicle quicker from a small dealer than a large one. If you have a allocation they build the lowest priority numbered unit possible. If priority 10 had a option that they were out of they would skip to 11. If you have multiple orders (they go by vehicle line) on the same priority, they build retail orders before stock, and pick the oldest order first. I order starting at 15 (so I've got room incase I need something urgent) on Retail orders and Stock orders at 30. If another dealer orders all his at 10 it does not give them any advantage over a 15 on my order bank. Also you might ocassionaly get a priority 01-09 which is set by Ford not the dealer. This means for some reason this vehicle will get built really soon (I had one retail order that didn't get scheduled for 8 moths due to the shortage of Off Roads and it got bumped up. Thats the only time I've seen it.) So basically Priority codes affect scheduling within the dealership, not scheduling between dealerships. Nathan Bernard Union Auto, Inc. I have a 98 Ranger with 3.0L and manual tranny that will not run smoothly. Whenever I try to cruise along at a steady speed ( doesn't matter what speed although it is not as bad at 70mph although I think that is because of the gearing) I get a constant jerking sensation like the engine is surging and hesitating just a little. The story I get from the dealer is that Ford states this is normal for this engine due to fuel economy and emission controls. Does anyone else have this in their truck? If I could get some opinions that it is common I wouldn't worry about it but whenever I try to get feed back from a group such as this, everyone acts like they don't know what I'm talking about which indicates to me not everyone experiences the problem. = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 97up-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 97up-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 May 1998 22:04:25 -0400 From: Ken Payne Subject: RE: FTE 97up - Static electricty Forwarded for: Dave Armbruster I have that problem in my '97 Ranger. Supposedly caused by the composition of the new technology in tires that lower rolling resistance, but apparently is a better electrical insulator. Anyway, I just hold my key on the metal part and touch it to the door frame before stepping on the ground. Many times you can see the spark, but you don't g*et shocked. > -----Original Message----- > From: rw [SMTP:rw > Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 1998 11:45 PM > To: 97up > Subject: FTE 97up - Static electricty > > Lately I notice, that every time I get out of my 98 Ford Ranger I get > a > shock when I close the door. I bought a 1998 F-150 Supercab 2WD XLT with 4.6l and auto. This truck is great! Only 1700 miles on it. Just took a trip over Memorial Day and it got 19.5 mpg on the highway. On the subject of extended warranties, I have had them on all the previous fords I have owned. I bought the warranty from Ford and have never had a problem getting them to cover a problem or being hard to deal with in any way. Maybe this is more a dealer problem than Ford itself. I bought my '98 F-150 Supercab 2WD XLT with pretty much all the options in November - after a guy in a bombed-out Suburban turned in front of me and totalled out my beloved '84 Trans Am. I'll hit 6,000 miles this weekend (time for new Mobil 1) and still love the truck. One word of advice: when it comes time to get your tires rotated, be careful. Those center caps come off OK if you know how to pry on them; otherwise they break completely. The so-called "tech" at the Ford dealer that rotated mine broke all 4 - count 'em, *4* - of my caps. Been driving around for the past week in a brand new truck with naked hubs; that really sucks. The new caps came in today, and you can bet no dealer (or anyone else, probably) will ever touch them again. I looked at the Husky liners, and agree they're well done. However, I felt like I'd always have the feeling I've got my feet in a tub or something (just not comfortable). I found a set of deep, black, very heavy, live rubber floor mats by a company called Cannon and bought a set for the front. When I bought them I only planned to use them during the winter to contain snow, etc. I liked them so much I went ahead and bought a set for the rear too, and they go so well with the "medium graphite" interior that I plan on leaving them in year 'round. Through the whole winter, they totally contained all water, snow, sand, salt, etc. They are VERY high quality. Check out http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.weathertech.com or http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.driversseat.com/weathertech.html. To avoid confusion, Weather Tech is the name of the U.S. company that imports the mats. They are actually made by Cannon in England. I bought my front set from a local truck specialty dealer, and ordered the rear set over the phone from WeatherTech. Driversseat.com has a very good picture of the front mats. Front and back sets both run about $50 per set. While they aren't custom made for every model, they have 4 or 5 different sizes/profiles to fit various vehicles. I found that the front set appears to be virtually custom made for the F-150. The rear set could have been used as is, but I chose to cut the edges around the seat belt anchors, etc. The rear set is made so that you can do that without cutting into the water containment area. Sorry to ramble but thought you might want to check into these.
