Ford may be right on this one. I live in a rural area so we don't get much acid rain, but we do have crop dusters which are just as bad. Just after the spraying season we see a lot of paint start having problems. They range from Clearcoat falling off, water spot stains (get progressively worse until paint falls off), and tarnished looking paint. We have a 1973 Mustang Convertible that got repainted about 5 years ago. It spent almost a year at the body shop and when it got out (hand polished laccuer) it was beautiful. After about a month it sat outside one afternoon and The field next to our house got sprayed (from a plane). Then there was a light rain. When I washed it had water drop stains in the paint. I thought they would wax out but they didn't. They have gotten progressively worse and now the edges are starting to peel. The car went to the body shop after about a month and he buffed it all the way to primer and this stain was still in there. So when we go to get it fixed again it will have to be taken to bare metal. As for paint warranty, this is a gray area. For rust your covered for 5 years and unlimited miles. This means, however, the rust must be a hole not just surface rust (tricky huh?). As for paint I believe (read your manual I'm not sure) that it is 12 months 12k miles from damage like your talking. This is true for all of the big 3 automakers. Many dealerships will just repaint it and get the claim paid (sometimes takes some doing, but if you bought the car NEW it can be done). There are a lot of favors that can get done if you talk to the right people but if you bought the vehicle used you are probably out of luck. Ford now does a lot of after warranty adjustments (limit 2 per vehicle) in case anything brakes after warranty that shouldn't have. They only do adjustments for the first owner of the car. For my 91explorer I had this tester that hooked up through the EEC diagnostic port and flashed out the error codes and has help me diagnose all of my problems so far. Is there and equivalent tester for these new trucks. //ck = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 97up-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 97up-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ End of 97up-list-digest V1 #93 ****************************** +------ Ford Truck Enthusiasts - 1997 and Newer Trucks and Vans ------+ | Send posts to 97up-list....
