I have a 89 F-350 4X4 7.5L Bucket truck (also 4 other various 93-97
F-350s) with 115k of serious heavy use. I would not worry about towing
the 9500 lbs, if the truck itself is basically unloaded...total weight
around 16,000. Mine is normally loaded to 10,500, then I will add load
or tow trailers. The brakes are all the same, actually they were
upgraded approx 94, the newer 7.5L engine has more low RPM torque. Mine
has 4.10 gears, but I normally skip 1st gear & use 5th, you should use
1st gear & skip 5th, if you get in a tight spot, say soft ground, put it
in low range. The 5spd trans only seems to fail if run without lube, I
put Mobil 1 in mine. Mine all have dual rear wheels...highly recommended
for highway stability & flotation over soft ground. The 4.10 gears
would have been the correct item, but, if you are able to drive the
truck without difficult starting from stop, I don't beleive you are
damaging anything. If your total weight is more than 16,000, you will
notice it is quite loagy & might want lower gears. Hey...do you work
with Cable TV test gear at HP?

Got the Fax on this recall this morning. To fix the problem We have to
burnish the parking brake shoes to remove the rust preventive film from the
brake shoe linings.

1. In a safe area, accelerate the vehicle to 15 MPH

2. Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL.

3. Slowly apply the parking brake to aprox. 1/2 to 3/4 of its travel

4. Allow the vehicle to come to a complete stop.

5. Release parking brake

6. Repeat procedure a second time.

Had someone come in Thursday and order a F-350 Diesel Lariat. It got
scheduled that night and I got an ETA this morning of 6-15-98. So if the
dealer doesn't have a backlog of orders I would say that you can get a truck
fairly quickly now (if they also have allocation. One of the dealers next
to me has only had one truck total.)

The chassis is certainly heavy enough for towing and the engine has enough
torque. The limiting factor is the rear end and that will not be a problem
except for steep grades. You wont break anything- you just flat won't be able
to handle a steep grade.

Roy:
Thanks for your reply. As far as bed liners are concerned, you might want to
consider a sprayed on liner like Line X-it is expensive($360) but looks great
and does not have the big ridges of the bed liners.
Truck World has info on
their page.
Has anyone had experience with Warranty Gold?

Need a quick informal poll of who (of the people going to the
F100 Supernationals) would be interested in meeting Sunday
morning (16th) for a breakfast before everyone leaves the
show? Everyone would bring their own stuff, perhaps stop at
McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts. Gary Bowling, one of the 61-79
list members, may be able to get us a pavillion on Sunday
morning. If we can get enough people interested (10+) then
we'll do it. How does a 9:00am get-together sound?

Correction on the Pigeon Forge Pavillion time: it would be
8:00am till whenever. No need to be there promptly at 8 if
you're sleeply.

This month. We've got a booth at the Pigeon Forge F100
Supernationals. Going to meet up with everyone if we
can get a pavillion. Its the biggest Ford truck only show
in the nation. Go to the web site and click events for
more info.

Subject: FTE 97up - 98 Ranger Stereo questions

Just got a new 98 Ranger SuperCab 4x4 and would like to enchance the Dual
Medium stereo that came with. I'm not up on all the stereo stuff, so if
anyone can clue me in I would appreciate it. Anyone know if the system and
speakers can handle am amp and how big of one w/o blowing anything up. Also
there is an option for a 6 cd changer. Where would the dealer, if I went
back to them install it. Currently there is a holder under the arm rest that
holds about 10 cd's. Is that where it is normally installed? Anyone know
what the factory speakers are rated for power. And lastly what about
additional speakers. Where does one put them.

Thankx
Bob
