Actually, when it gets cooler, the A/C uses little energy (I have
measured this effect on room a/c units that I run all winter in NY),
plus the defrost does work about 50 X better. Used to be that auto
mfgrs advised to run a/c in winter several times to lubricate the seals.
So... Don't worry about it.

I am getting ready to order a new F250 Superduty. I have not decided
between the 5.4L
or the V10, yet. I am really leaning tward the V10 at this point.

A couple of questions:

1. Has anyone had any initial problems with this engine?
2. The dealer claims 13mpg to 16mpg for mileage with this engine. I
find that hard to believe.
Does anyone have any input on that?

Note the rumor in regards to the V12 that could be available in the
2nd year.... Anyone know what the v12 may be based on? 2 more
cylinders tacked on to the v10? may need vaseline to stuff that
engine in place.

The upcoming Ford Excursion is dubbed the Suburban fighter; however, in
reality the Excursion is based on the F-Series Super Duty
Chassis while the Suburban is more or less just a modified C/K series
pickup truck.

The Excursion will be a four door model, similar in design and function to
the Ford Expedition, but much larger. The 5.4 V-8 should be the standard
engine with a 6.0 V-10 or the 7.3 Diesel engines being optional. It is possible
that an optional V-12 engine will be offered in the
second year of the Excursion's availability.

The 9 passenger Excursion will be available in the fall of 1999 and you can
expect to pay about $32,012. for a base four wheel drive
model.

Around town I'm getting about 12-13 mpg.

Subject: FTE 97up - 1997 F350 7.3 PSK 15K service questions

I am nearing 15K miles and need to do a few things beyond the standard.
Perhaps someone could educate me on the following topics:

- - DCA additives.
- - Water Separater. Specifically the location and procedure.
- - Air filter flow test unit. I see a reset button but have never seen
the indicator change relative to the scale. Of course I have changed
the filter. Have not yet stepped up to the K&N. Should I?
- - Any other suggestions gladly accepted.


I tend to do all but the 30K stuff myself. I have a good International
dealer close by and prefer fleetgaurd parts and Delo oil.

I called K&N and they spec. part number HP-2010 as a replacement oil filt=
er for the 98 Ford Econoline van w/the V-10. It seems to me that this =
engine hasn't changed between the 98 van and the 99 Super Dutys. Was won=
dering if anyone had tried one to see if it fits on the new Super Dutys =
(I have a F-350)? I used to use K&N disposable oil filters on my 88 Toyo=
ta truck and they were great.

I have a F250 V10 SC 4x4 with 4.30 gears. I currently have 3500 miles on it
and get between 10 and 11 around town and my best highway so far is 12.5. I
think 16mpg is a little far fetched, unless maybe it's a regular cab, 4x2, with
3.55 gears.

I have not had an ounce of trouble yet.

I had a Lincoln Mercury meeting (via satellite on Fordstar), where they
talked about new products and they listed 5.4L 4 valve engine on Navigator
but it said late introduction. The way I understand (but not necessarily
right) is the 2V will be standard for a few months until the 4v is available
and then it will be standard.

I was sitting in the Ford Dealership a few months ago and I was reading some
brochures about the 96 PSD's. It said the Power Stroke engine had an
advantage because it was direct injected. But the 99's are waste-gated. Why
did they change from Direct injection to waste-gated if direct is better?

Two different parts of the engine. Injection is still direct injection because
it is cleaner and more effecient.

Wastegates work with the turbo to add low end power at the expense of high end
boost.

The 99 PSD is direct injected and comes with a wastegated turbo unit.

Subject: FTE 97up - Super Duty trailer mirrors

I just got back from the Ford dealer where they installed a new drivers side
powered trailer tow mirror under warranty. It's defective in the same
manner as the old one. The wide angle section that's not adjustable is
aimed too far down and too far inward. I've got a great view of the rear
tire! Ironically, 2 weeks ago when I was at the dealer a guy was picking up
his new Super Duty and I mentioned that the only problem I had with the new
truck was the mirror. He got into his new truck and found his mirror bad
also. Anyone else notice this on their new rigs? Have you got it fixed?
It really a safety issue to not be able to see behind you and I want to get
it fixed asap. The dealer is going to call Ford on monday.

with all five matching wheels? I'm looking at ordering an XLT 4x4, and
would like to just get the standard tires and buy better aftermarket tires.
Will I have all five styled wheels, or will the spare be a steel wheel?
