I have a 99 SD on order with a gas engine I would like to install a second battery to power a camper that I am going to install when I get the truck. Where is the 2nd battery located on the diesel? Does anyone know how hard it would be to install a 2nd battery on gas engine (what kind of mounting hardware would I need to add)? Thanks, Joe == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Sep 1998 12:27:20 -0400 From: "Daniel O'Shea" Subject: FTE 97up - Is dipstick off by 1/2-inch? I seem to remember reading a post where someone mentioned that the Ranger oil dipstick (at least on some engines) read off by 1/2-inch or so. It had something to do with the angle the engine was mounted at. Now I can't find it in the archives. Am I making this up?? Am I crazy? BTW - I've got a 98 Ranger 4x4 4.0. Thanks! The dipsticks are often wrong on new vehicles. I'd suggest putting a mark on the dipstick after changing the oil and putting in the correct amount of oil (make sure to run the engine before marking the level). My 97 F250HD 460 was off by 1.5 quarts. It took 3 different dipsticks and tubes to finally get it within a .5 quart accuracy. My 99 F250 V-10 seems to be about a third or maybe a quarter off. The 95 Ranger I used to own (4.0) was dead on. So is my 86 Sentra, but who cares. ;) Chad Union Auto wrote: > > The dipsticks are often wrong on new vehicles. Thanks for that information. I couldn't find any reference to it in the owners manual. As far as the boss being right, even a blind hog occasionally finds an apple! > > > How can I get one of these? You may already have one, check your window sticker. I thought about trying to add one of these to an existing truck, maybe using a battery voltage sensing relay in lieu of the timer relay, but gave up, as my opinion is that cutting and splicing all those wires will actually reduce the reliability of the vehicle, rather than enhance it. Adding one to a Ford without it may be a simple plug in affair, but I doubt it. > > One of what? A battery saver, or a Boss who is right? You can have my Boss! Here is a link to it. The picture shows ho it is installed.....it simply mounts on the side of your battery box and connects in line with the pos+ cable and the battery. Looks like cheap insurance to me !!!!!! I know I'm getting old and everything, can't see as well as I used to, but I don't see the link. Would you mind posting it again? Price is good, no wire splicing, and voltage sensing, just like I wanted. Won't my Wife be impressed, no more jump starts after she leaves the lights on! And all this started because I wanted to know what the Battery saver was. Thanks again to all. Best Regards, Robert == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html....
