I really appreciate it when folks responding to posts/questions do not include the entire contents of the loooong question/post to which they are responding. That is truly considerate. Since this is not a newsgroup type discussion group, everyone has access to the original post. OTOH, I just don't understand why we have to see the same post over and over when multiple folks are responding to the same post/question :=) In the interest of saving band width, etc, if you would like to flame me please do so at my address rather than on the group. I have had my share of grief with my 97' F250 pickup (posted earlier) and can understand your frustration. The latest issue for me is pending replacement of the 5.4 L engine due to piston slap problems. (dealer is not certain if they corrected the problem yet) A few of the earlier problems were trans. oil leak, brake fluid leak, window seal, wiper malf. rusted rims/bumpers, now some rust is showing up around the rear bumper. Vehicle is less than one year old and has approx 12, 000 miles. All these issues ( plus factory recalls) have resulted in many return trips to the dealership for corrective action. Interesting web site you forwarded regarding complaints and re-calls etc. I will be sending in my "list". Hope others do as well. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, I usually haunt the Pre '61 list, but I need to get a message across to more than the people on that list. I want to compile a list of all FTE people in the Kentucky area. The reason is that I want to get as many of us together as possible to form a club that would be associated with the Ford Truck Enthusiasts website. This would be a dues-paying club with 2 primary purposes: 1. To give us all an excuse to get together and talk about our trucks 2. To help support this web site we all enjoy. I am not saying I want to preside over such a club, but I know there has to be more than just me and Ken Laffoon here in the Bluegrass that own, drive, and love their Ford truck(s) enough to be associated with this website. Let's get together and hash it out, and do something that looks vaguely organized. - -- Don Neighbors '54 F250 Named Grover "Any dropped tool or part will automatically fall into the most innaccesible part of the vehicle." grover == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 14:11:34 -0500 From: Glenn See Subject: Re: FTE 97up - PROBLEMS Nope, this is my first Ford since the fifties. Had seven Chevrolets and one Dodge until I bought the 97 LXT ex-cab in Mar. 97. Bought it because it was the only ex-cab with an 8 foot bed available the day I came in heat to buy a truck. So far, it has had fewer problems than any pickup that I have owned in the last fifty years. While I have various problems over the years, I have never had the multitude such as those described by some of the writers on this page, maybe I have just been lucky. I have never been a Ford man and mine may come unraveled tomorrow, but I have never been more pleased with a vehicle than I am with this truck. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 17:29:58 EDT From: Bear6522 Subject: Re: FTE 97up - PROBLEMS noticed a solid layer of rust on the side of the rear bumper on my 1997 EB Expedition (30K) the outside looks fine but the inside was a surprise. A friend just informed me that he has a balance of several thousand dollars in credit which could be used toward the purchase of a Ford vehicle. He accumulated this credit by using a credit card that I believe was issued by Ford. At any rate, the balance expires at the end of this year, and he has no plans to purchase another Ford vehicle. Does anyone know how this credit works, and whether or not it is transferable? I guess I could have him purchase the vehicle, but then I'm concerned that the only way I could get it in my name would be to purchase it from him, thereby defeating the purpose of using the credit, by incurring sales tax and possibly terminating the warranty? (Is the warranty transferrable?). I hesitate to contact a dealer to discuss this, because I don't want it to affect the deal on the truck. Any info would be appreciated. I am particularly interested in the type that has a cutout that allows you to hitch up a fifth wheel trailer without having to drop the tailgate. I just purchased a Navigator and I noticed some 'features' missing that I happened to like on previous Ford vehicles. Does anyone know why these were eliminated? 1. Locking gas cap 2. Cruise control annunciator (no indicator light that tells you that it's active) 3. Radio: no pre-set indicator to tell you that you are listening to a preset. Any other navigator/expedition owners out there? I have been trying to DeActivate my auto door locks for 14 months on my 1997 F150! I have asked my dealer numberous times if there was a way and they just said no.... There is no mention of this procedure in the 97 manual, but it worked just as you wrote! That autolock drove me nuts, as I make frequent stops and many times have to open the passenger door after stopping. If I forgot to 'unlock' before getting out, I would have to go back around and unlock the damn thing. Now, if I could only get Ford to fix how the E4OD transmission refuses to gracefully come out of torque converter lockup! Thanks again Steven!
