It is larger than my 89 CC. The pickup model is smaller than either, and has little 5 leaf springs. I don't understand how both have 11,200 GVW. So, if you will have heavy use, I suggest you get a cab-chassis & put a body on it. Next note...Mine is a v-10 4X4 SC DRW, dealer order book & window sticker state I get "Htdro-Boost Brakes"...I got vacuum boost brakes, THAT DON"T WORK! They just require too much pedal pressure to stop the truck, which is loaded to 10,500 lbs. I called Ford twice, they referred it back to dealer, who called Ford...answer, must be missprint, gas engines come with vacuum boost. Is there any Federal spec on brake pedal pressure? This one takes 50 lbs foot pressure to stop at end of driveway, 70 lbs for "normal" stop from 35 mph. Right after I got my truck, they ran out of V-10s, so very few have been made in this configuration. Suggestions please! The cab lights of my '93 F-250 4WD cleared the garage by only about 1" in our old house. I would drive one to your house before buying it just to make sure. If they don't have one, I would be happy to measure my F350 4X4 for you. However, don't dilly-dally if you want me to measure it. I am giving serious thought to selling it and going back to the Dodge/Cummns package. The truck is ok but I miss the power, driveability and economy of the Cummins engine. Having driven both, the Power Stroke simply comes up short. We now live on a farm and I keep the truck in an equipment shed. It's 12' door leaves plenty of room. Empty on the highway, 15 or more is very possible--perhaps nearly 17. We have done very little empty driving so I can't give a good figure for that. The reason you cannot order a snow plow direct from Ford is because Ford does not sell enough to put money into stocking and building snow plows for trucks. Trust me your truck can definitly be equipped to have a snow plow. It is possible to put a snow plow on almost any truck or SUV. The Ford F-Series is the best selling truck for 21 years running, people that produce snow plows know this and thus it is not difficult to get one for your truck. It also uses split shot injectors which inject a small amount of fuel that detonates (causing the rattle sound in a Diesel) and then injects the amount of fuel needed to produce power after the fuel is already combusting. This softens the knocking sound greatly. The 99's are much quitter than any other Direct injected Light truck Diesel (though still loud). I first installed a K&N then a Borla cat back and finally a Superchips chip. The chip gave me the biggest gain, then the Borla then the K&N. It is hard to notice 15 hp with the seat of your pants when you are empty, but if you try it loaded you should be able to feel it. None of these add ons will snap you neck but IMHO they are worth it. I had my superchips custom programmed to remove the speed limiter and move the rev limiter to 6500 rpm. It is easier to climb sand dunes with a stick when you do not have to shift gears. I have since cut out my filter box to expose more of the K&N and plugged/covered some slots where the airbox attaches to the rubber hose after the MAF. I noticed now that at 5000 rpm the engine is more willing to rev to the limit than before the modification. I got that idea from reading posts on the K&N FIPK. Interesting information from a couple of post and it appears the dealer sales folks are confusing the light duty F250 versus the super duty models. The consensus from recent posts seems to be all super duty trucks have the heavy duty auto's namely the 4R100. The PTO Provision is listed as available in the super duty models. I'm not sure about the light duty F250. As has been mentioned in recent posts, that may be the cause of confusion. Possibly one can get a heavy duty transmission in the light duty model by ordering the PTO Provision? Come to think of it, the super duty's window sticker has the notation HD in front of the automatic transmission listing. This indicates that the super duty's already have the heavy duty transmission per what quite a few of you have indicated. Maybe I better get the dealership to subscribe to the reflector and get up to speed. You sure get a lot of good information here ;')) - -----Original Message----- From: johny To: 97up-list Date: Monday, August 17, 1998 2:30 PM Subject: Re: FTE 97up - STD automatic vs HD automatic option >Your dealer appears to be comparing apples to oranges. > >The LD (light duty) 250's (3/4 ton) truck probably comes >with an E40D.
