Right after I got off the computer I drove 200 miles to a small town in Idaho. On the way there i couldn't help but notice the whine from 900 rpm to 1,100 rpm, then it fades off from 1,100 to 1,200. Then I was drivng down a dirt road with the windows down and I heard a squeaky fan belt. Sure that can probably fixed with a little oil here a rag there, but, what is the whining around 1,000 rpm?! Most all transmissions have a slight whine that is usually only evident under very quiet (radio off, at night) ambient conditions at low RPM, of course at mid or high RPM, there is too much engine noise to hear this whine. Remember that a noise does NOT always indicate a problem. As far as the belt goes, the best solution is generally replacement. I considering taking my new FORD to the DO*G* service dept. and letting ride in a REAL long bed truck that doesn't vibrate. imho Ford has a real winner here and the dogs are chasing their tails now. I have to say I am very pleased with initial quality. The only thing I have had go wrong is the driver side mirror is loose in the housing and rattles a little. The dealer has a new one ordered. I get 17.5 mpg average and 19.5 to 20.5 on trips. Great truck. I would agree. I have the same configuration but with the 4.2l & 3.55 gears. At 10K miles no problems of any sort, although my mileage isn't quite as good. I guess he was just trying to be nice to both lists??? My main questions are that I think the F-250 might be more than I need but I have always been one to buy the best I can for my money. I have done some pricing around and I can get a Super duty for almost the same price I can get a F-150 for so my questions are as follows. Can you order a super duty with 3.73 gears with the 5.4 5-speed? I really want a 5-speed but do not need the 4.10 gears that come with the superduty. Since I want a 5-speed I am not sure the F-150 will do. See I want to lift the truck and put 35" tires on it and since I want the 5-speed I would have to order a 4.6 in the F-150 and I am not sure how this small motor will handle the bigger tires, what do you guys think? Should I just say to hell with the 5-speed and order a F-150 with the new 5.4 for '99? I need to have 4 wheel drive, supercab. Let me know your thoughts. Oh I forgot to tell you that I currently have a '96 1/2 ton Dodge Club Cab and I have had a lot of trouble like the steering column going out leaking oil and transmission fluid and brakes failing at 30K highway miles so to say I am not going to buy a Dodge again. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Larry larryboz == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------....
