Right after I got off the computer I drove 200 miles to a small town in Idaho. On the way there i couldn't help but notice the whine from 900 rpm to 1,100 rpm, then it fades off from 1,100 to 1,200. Then I was drivng down a dirt road with the windows down and I heard a squeaky fan belt. Sure that can probably fixed with a little oil here a rag there, but, what is the whining around 1,000 rpm?! Most all transmissions have a slight whine that is usually only evident under very quiet (radio off, at night) ambient conditions at low RPM, of course at mid or high RPM, there is too much engine noise to hear this whine. Remember that a noise does NOT always indicate a problem. As far as the belt goes, the best solution is generally replacement. I considering taking my new FORD to the DO*G* service dept. and letting ride in a REAL long bed truck that doesn't vibrate. imho Ford has a real winner here and the dogs are chasing their tails now. I have to say I am very pleased with initial quality. The only thing I have had go wrong is the driver side mirror is loose in the housing and rattles a little. The dealer has a new one ordered. I get 17.5 mpg average and 19.5 to 20.5 on trips. Great truck. I would agree. I have the same configuration but with the 4.2l & 3.55 gears. At 10K miles no problems of any sort, although my mileage isn't quite as good. George Jeffers == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------....
