Hunter's question & Nathan's response) Regarding Russell Hunter's question and Nathan's response: I ordered my truck (1999 F-350 Crewcab, SRW, V-10) in May and the dealer estimated 90 days to deliver. Once he had a VIN, he was told to expect delivery on 8/3 and that date stayed firm as he checked from time to time to keep me posted. However, the truck arrived at the dealership yesterday, one week EARLY. They will prep the truck and deliver to me in the next day or two. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 08:08:04 -0500 From: "Union Auto" Subject: Re: FTE 97up - 99 Super Duty Transmissions It is a reworked version of the E4OD called the 4R100. It is rated for 600 Lb/ft of input torque so I don't think that your going to have a trany problem. I had many customers switch from Dodge (due to numerous transmission and brake problems) and they haven't had any problems since. The only changes I've seen is the V10 is now $350 instead of $335, and most trucks went up $400-500. Passenger Air bag is now standard. If you already have an order in you are price protected to the old pricing. All vehicles already built will have the old pricing also. Want to get to the bottom of this issue. > Does anyone have the facts? > > kindest regards! You didn't say but I assume you are speaking to a diesel power vehicle? With the diesel powered trucks available today, the transmission IS the weak link unless they find a way to shoehorn in the 6 speed Allison musher some way. My background is with the Dodge/Cummins trucks but I'll try and help you and add to the Collective Wisdom at the same time. I just bought af F350/Super Duty diesel with the "new" transmission and 3:77 rear end. It is my understanding is that the new transmission is a beefed up E40D. The new torque converter has a lower stall speed to take advantage of the torque curve of the International diesel. Additionally, they have beefed up the clutches to handle the 500ft/lbs torque. That was a good and responsible thing for Ford to do and the main reason I bought the vehicle. I like the way it shifts in general and especially under load. Well done! I understand it is a 4 speed!? Are we talking 4 shifts then a lockup? I am embarassed to say that I never counted. As an aside...... We pull a double axle #8800 horse trailer. From that background, I can share that the weakness in the Dodge was the torque converter/transmission. The engine made plenty of power and behaved more like a diesel than the Powe Stroke does and make its big torque (which you can really feel in the seat of your pants) at about 1,400 RPM. So far, (with 1,500 mi on the truck) the Power Stroke is ok but it feels pretty much like a gas engine on the road. Add to that, the International is not able to be used with a Jake-Brake or Pac-Brake, a real downside in the hills/mountains here in VA horse country. This presents a problem going DOWN hills loaded... The problem with my Dodge was that the Mopar torque converter would allow the engine to rev up to about 2,000 RPM under load and not couple the power to the ground. Since the engine turned only about 2,400RPM which made the redline/governor point kind of close. This presented a problem going UP hills loaded.... Am very happy with the '350 Super Duty thus far and its far and away better than my 1993 F250 diesel. However, as with all of lifes choices, there are differences to be weighed and compromises to be accepted. It will be interesting to see if the new truck will deliver the 24MPG that my '95 4 x 4 Cummins B5.9 230 2500 did. ciao - ---------------------------------- Chuck Rippel crippel - ---------------------------------- == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 17:48:53 -0400 From: Ken Payne Subject: FTE 97up - ADMIN: Your email address >From the Ford Truck Enthusiasts admin, please read it, its important! In the last 4 weeks, we've received a grand total of less than $30 in FTE window sticker and Restoration Resource book sales. After product costs, we made less than $7 on the sales. Our monthly expenses are significantly higher than this. In order to keep Peggy and I from spending even more of our cash (a few thousand in the last year and a half) on FTE, we're going to start offering POP3/SMTP email addresses. The FTE lists will continue to remain free, which is a commitment I've made to the members from day one - this is one way for us to keep this commitment. Now is your chance to get an email address in the form of yourname POP3 compatible email software (Outlook, Exchange, Eudora, Inbox, Netscape, Internet Explorer and just about any package you can think of). Its usuable from any ISP so you can keep the same address even if you change internet providers! Cool address for your business cards if you have a Ford truck related business. We have a very high availability track record with no known lost mail from our lists (on our end, this is with over 50,000 emails per day) since we completed the transition to our current host. The cost? Personal Use ============ - $2.50 per month with a $5 setup fee. Address is available in 6 month increments so the initial cost is $20 for six months. - renewal every six months is $15 ($2.50/month) - If you purchase 1 year in advance, the setup fee is waived and your cost is $30. - Additional addresses are available at the cost of $1.75 per month with a $2.50 setup fee for each address. Existing Ford truck clubs ========================= - One address for free so long as it is used for club purposes only and is not used in conjunction with mailing lists (such as ours). Using it for club announcements and communications with club members is allowable if the volume is kept to a reasonable amount. I need about 20 people to break even on this. Please email me at kpayne email addresses (in case your first choice is taken) and a notice that you want 6 or 12 months of POP3 email service. Addresses will be given on a first come, first serve basis. Once I have at least 20 people interested, I'll notify everyone with all the details.
