I have a 97 F-150 4X4. It came with Goodyear RT/S 265/70R16. Of course
they wore out after 23K miles. Those tires should have NEVER been put on a
4X4. I went to a bigger tire. The Goodyear AT/S 305/70R16. Going from a
30" tire to a 33" tire really improved the looks and the AT/S tread pattern
REALLY improved the offroad handling. I have been putting 35' of pressure
in them. Am I ok or should I adjust the pressure

What does the tire foot print at 90mph look like? If it is bulging in the
center then the right compensation has to occur. Tires change shape at
different speeds, causing some strange wear patterns to occur. If the sides of

the tread are wearing then under inflation is indicated. Weight too, will
affect the tires footprint. With all the variables I would presume that the
optimum pressure would be what the vehicles manufacturer states is the correct
pressures. For no other reason than I "think" what I am doing works, I do the
following. I run the tires at factory specs, then raise the pressures at
different times more or less depending on how I see the tires wearing. Is this
a good system? I don't have the slightest idea, but it seems to work relative
to tire longevity.

There are about four states that require CA. smog equipment. The states that I
remember are Ma. Ca. Fl. and whatever else.

My question concerns the advantages, if any, of buying a vehicle without Ca.
smog included with the vehicle. If I did the latter would anything at all
improve in mileage, engine longevity, horsepower, or whatever. Does Federal
smog equate to Ca. ....
