Does anybody know what recall 97B16 really is. Got our 97 F250 4x4 PSD back from
the dealer yesterday and the invoice stated: Did find A B program. Ordered parts
> for recall 97B16. When I asked what this was nobody knew. I was passed off to the
mech that did the work and he had no idea. First he thought it was some kind of
reprogram for the PCM but when I asked about the
parts he was stumped. After
looking around he came up with: Its for heavy duty/severe duty use only, the air
filter can clog up early causing the air box to implode owner needs to increase
frequency of checking the air filter and replace when needed. Nothing was said
about parts, so does anybody know the real skinny on this recall?????

I just looked the 97B16 recall up. It is only on certain Power Stroke
> F-Series. Apparently if the air cleaner is allowed to get EXTREMELY dirt
(Plugged) it can suck in the sides of the filter and allow unfiltered air to
pass. They will put new filter retainers in and on some trucks (depends on
witch air cleaner lid you have) they will replace the air cleaner lid so it
can't collapse.

In response to the question about was the noise there from the start, the
person reporting the problem replied:

"The noise was there from the start.

I have found some Ford TSB about this tranny stating that service
personnel should contact Ford with the diagnostic info their tool
generated. It also says no fixes shall be made before 6/30/98.

The noise seems to be related to engine speed. It appears at about 700
rpm and then around 1400-1500. I think I'm also hearing a similar noise
while driving, when the engine is at about 1400-1500 rpm. I'll drive
around some more while listening carefully."....
