Subject: FTE 97up - Mach Stereo System

I'm debating getting the Eddie Bauer version Expedition (I plan on ordering
a '99 when they are available). The main reason I'm considering the Eddie
Bauer is for the Mach stereo system. I have not been able to find out much
about this stereo setup. My questions are:

Who makes the receiver, amps, etc? Who makes the speakers? Is there a sub
woofer? If so, where is it located?

If you own the Mach system, tell me what you think. Does the CD changer
skip? I'm considering tackling the installation of a high end
stereosystem myself after I get the truck and therefore settling on an XLT
model. Anybody have any thoughts or info?

The Mach audio in the Expedition is a 290 watt 7 Speaker system. The Sub is
located on the right hand side rear corner. It uses the standard receiver
made by Ford. I'm not sure who makes the speakers and amps. Many vehicle
lines use Mach audio and many that have it had JBL before they offered Mach,
so there is a possibility that it is JBL but I doubt it. I think everything
is Ford related (except the CD Changer they have different sources for
those). Ford has a very expensive (compared to other automakers) audio
design area. I really like the sound of the Mach audio (The Mustang version
is much better with the 460 watts, but Expedition is still good). The
biggest advantage it has over and aftermarket system is the clarity. I've
never heard a add on system that the high's or low's didn't overpower the
music at high volume.

The Mach system is pretty good for a stock system. CD player hasnt skipped
yet. If you have experienced a decent high end system then you will be
disappointed with the stock one.

Piston slap is a somewhat loud knocking sound that last for a couple of
minutes at cold startup.

Don't get me wrong, I very much like the truck and would buy another if I
had the need. I just wish it was easier to deal with Ford and find a dealer
in Phoenix that REALLY cared about first rate customer service. I'm sure
you'll enjoy your truck like I do.

now available. I must say I'm disappointed, no crew cab option, no air
suspension, the baby Cummins ISB, and auto transmission only available
in the light duty configuration. Is this what Ford's going to offer, or
is there more to come? I was hoping to see the 250-300 HP Navistar or
Cummins diesel, an Allison MD series transmission and the above
mentioned features that would accentuate this model above the F-550 in
power and performance.

Saw something described in another forum, anyone heard about or experienced
this?

99 F250SD with 4R100 auto, no PTO.
The transmission makes a weird noise.
When in Park or Neutral, engine at idle, there is a "gear chatter" noise.
The noise disappears if the engine operates above idle.
Customer's dealer advised that Ford is aware of this problem and is looking
into
it and at present is advising owners to continue driving their vehicles
as normal.

I have one of these arriving soon, am interested in any information on the
subject.

I would recommend that you get an XLT and put an awsome aftermarket stereo
system in at half the price they would charge you. Personnaly I enjoy all of
the amenities of the Eddie Bauer, but if you dont care to have them, why pay
the price

I've checked the old ('97) F150 brochure that I have, and it lists every
truck dimension except height. Could someone in the know please post
this, or send it to me via email?

Also, I've been watching the discussion regarding the shape of the bed
on the F250 SD. Does anyone know if any pickup cap manufacturers are
working on designs that will fit the bed without having the strange look....
