Does anyone know where/if I can get a 96 Windstar speedometer repaired?
Replacement is $235. My mechanic says these die regularily.

The 4r70W will be the transmission used on the 5.4L F-150 for 1999 (except
California emissions). The E4OD shortage was one of the main reasons that
the 5.4L was hard to get for 98. The 4R70W isn't rated for as much power as
the E4OD but is still a better transmission than what Dodge and Chevy offer
so I wouldn't worry about having problems. If an E4OD is a must it is still
available on the F-250 LD.

Subject: FTE 97up - 1999 SD Passenger SRS

A few days ago Ford added Passenger SRS to all my SD orders with a message
saying that it was now standard. Yesterday they deleted all of them. Today
they show up with a $300 option price and are not standard. So I don't know
what is going on with this item.

Exciting news: I spoke with my dealer today regarding the Super Crew Cab
option that is on the Ford web site.
He just returned from a dealers' show and he said the factory guy had
pictures, etc. Allows you to either seat 9 or fold the rear bench down, thus
giving you room to store stuff inside the truck. It also comes standard with
head rests on the rear bench (unlike the Regular Crew Cab for 99 wherein the
rear bench has no headrests). This Super CC option comes with all sorts of
other bells and whistles too, like power sliding rear window. He said they
don't have pricing yet and the factory guy said that the order codes should
be available within the next 3 to 4 weeks. That does it for me-I'm going to
order a SUPER Crew Cab! Ya Hoo!!

Looks like it's for Lariat's only.

Also, I see on the "build you own" section of the www.ford.com shows that
the Full Function Aux Idle Control as well as the Limited Function Aux Idle
Control is now available for the Power Stroke. Any specifics on
the differences yet?

Yukon/Suburban, gas mileage is quite poor, only about 18 mpg with the 5.4L.
If you live in the US where gas is relatively cheap, this is less of an issue.
I Canada we pay over $3.00 per imperial gallon for gas and it is therefor a
greater consideration.>

I'm only seeing about 15-to-15.5 mpg from my 5.4L and my first thoughts were
"How could this guy think 18mpg was "poor" mileage"! - I'd "die" for 18mpg!
I'm glad I reread your message later and saw that you qualified that it was
18mpg per imperial gallon; I can rest easy again now!

Haven't heard anything from Ford on the Aux idle control yet.

As for Super Crew I haven't heard anything from Ford on it yet either. If I
order a F-350 Crew Cab DRW shortbox the computer gives me these errors:
156" wb crew cab requires oxford white (Z1) monotone paint
OR
Lariat LE package (17S)
HOLD--F-350 Crew cab w/156" wb 08/03/98
Then if I add 17S I get the warning
17S Lariat LE PKG hold 10/19/98
If I go on to the Prices screen it lists option 17S Super Crew pkg
Retail $3325 Invoice $2827. There are many things on the list that weren't
on the order input like Sliding rear window, Privacy glass, and Power
Trailer tow mirrors so I think all these are required. Things that I
haven't seen available without this package are Quad Leather Captains
chairs, aluminum wheels 19.5" - 4, and Cab step WITH lite. So this package
is going to be available but the date (can change either way) is 10/19/98.

No where can I find a description of this thing except from guessing that
it is a crew cab WITH an extended (or super) cab in addition to allow for
up to nine passengers. Is this correct? If this is true, what about
availability of extra half doors for the extended cab? That would be very
cool. Using the builder on the Ford site it only appears on the F350 crew
cabs with dual rear wheels. Anyonw know if it will be available in a
single rear wheel drive truck?

If I can order a F250 Super Crew, short bed, V10 I might be FORCED to
trade
in my '96 dodge.

Subject: FTE 97up - 99 Grill insert

After reading a lot of information in the list, on the web, and from the 99
ordering guide, I have succumb to the fact that the 99 F-150 XLT 2wd will
only come with the "egg crate" style grill verse's the "mesh" or "honeycomb"
style found in the special appearance packages from the 97/98 model year.
The mesh style will only come on the 4wd and Lariat editions. That being
said has anyone changed this out on their 97 or 98 model? My plans are to
change the grill from the egg crate style to the mesh as soon as my 99
arrives (Aug/Sep). I know some of you might say why did you get if you
don't like it, but $$$ was the main factor and I couldn't let something that
seems so simple to swap out stop me.

If anyone has ordered one from Ford and aftermarket (if available) please
let me know. Also, if one might want to give me some ideas about how to do....
