We use 215 & 235/85R16. These are a long wearing, high quality, low priced tire. Tread life is about 25k on our twin I beam fronts, 50k on dual rears, or about 40k when rotated. Ford ships the trucks with: General summer or all terrain, Firestone summer tread...these all have only 60% of the tread life of the Cooper(this really gives the appearance of poor quality). The Firestone all terrain OEMs have similiar or slightly better tread life than Coopers but cost much more at retail here. Our Cooper dealer has a road hazard warranty, sort of unheard of for commercial use. Band-Aid approach is "lightly setting the E-Brake" to aid limited slip action. If this is a big problem for you, I recommend getting a real locker. Even if you break an axle, you can still get home. A better option might be an ARB air locker, it costs more, and is a more difficult install, but it won't affect your normal driving like a regular locker. I took my "lock-right" out of my fairly high horsepower, short wheel base truck because my wife refused to drive it like that. But, with a long wheelbase, I don't believe it will cause you any problems. Best Regards, Robert Stout In a message dated 6/5/98 5:18:50 PM Central Daylight Time, STEPHEN_WITTE sandiego-om2.om.hp.com writes: that the back wheel in the rut was turning and taking up the power from the engine and the rear wheel that was up and on dry ground was just sitting there. Evidently the 'limited slip' function of the rear differential had expired. This truck, which has only 1800 miles on it, is still under warranty. I brought it in to my favorite mechanic today to get the oil changed (as it was pretty black even with only 1800 miles on it) and told him about the differential. He put it on the lift and determined that indeed the limited slip function was probably gone. >> == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Jun 1998 11:44:41 -0700 From: Lee Haefele Subject: FTE 97up - Re:Questions On my 99 F-350, can I screw a business radio to the ceiling? Cannot look in through the clearance lights, they seem glued on. Is there a way to disconnect the "key in ign" buzzer? This chassis does seem heavier built than prev years trucks, the radiator, trans cooler & oil to water oil cooler are impressive. I will followup on gas mileage, as soon as I empty the tank. How much do you get empty? How much do you get when towing? (what weight are you towing and at what speeds?). What rear end ratio do you recommend for towing 4000, 6000, 8000, 12000 lbs.? == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Jun 1998 19:04:31 -0500 From: Manuel Ziegler Subject: FTE 97up - XLT Does anyone know what the option "XLT special appearance package" mean on the window sticker of a 1998 reg cab. Does this have anything to do with colored keyed head light bezel or colored keyed mirrors. Is this a limited option on some XLT's ordered. == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Jun 1998 20:37:16 -0500 From: "Jack Bowell" Subject: FTE 97up - 99 F-150 Photos Can anyone remember what issue of AutoWeek had a spy photo of the new 99 F-150 in it earlier this year? I believe it was after the Detroit Auto Show. Or does anyone know where to find any sneak pixs of the "slightly" restyled truck? The issue: adding a performance orient truck list. It won by a large margin: In Favor: 82% Against: 11% Don't Care: 5% List member Keith Srb is going to administer this list. He should be starting soon. No date yet, I've gotten a little behind with extra work and my son's 1st birthday party. I'll post subscribe instructions when the list is ready to go live. Additionally, please not that this list will cover performance issues for **all** years and models. This isn't going to be the place to discuss tune-ups, but if you're considering a radical cam you'll like it. This seems like the perfect opportunity. Can one of our Canadian members take on the job of organizing a lunch or some other sort of gathering at this show? Also, Ford is looking for 48-50 F1 owners for the show, please read this if you have one and can attend. - -Ken Payne CoAdmin, Ford Truck Enthusiasts http://www.ford-trucks.com On Sunday August 16th, 1998 the All Ford Reunion is being held at the Ford of Canada head office between 9:00 and 3:00. This is an annual event that is open to all stock Ford vehicles up to and including the 1978 model year. This year being the 50th anniversary of the F-series, the reunion committee would like to have a 1948 F1 at the reunion, but so far have had no luck in finding one in southern Ontario. I talked to a member of the committee, a 49 or 50 would be great as well. For more information, contact Martin Brugmans at (905)-844-1952. Trophies are given for class winners, winners are determined by participant's votes. == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Jun 1998 22:56:12 -0400 From: Ken Payne Subject: FTE 97up - FTE in V8 Times Magazine V8 Times did a 1/2 page write up about in their May/June issue! I had a 1993 Chevy 6.5 Crew Cab 4X4 Dually. I put 10,000 Lbs on it and drove 530 miles and put in 32 gals +/- 1gal of fuel. I did this for 5 years. I recently purchased a Ford SD 550, I drive it empty 7500 lbs. 2400 RPM, same as the 6.5 and I only go 265 miles before putting in 32 gals. of fuel. The Ford computer check says all systems are OK. I recently made a trip towing a trailet and grossed 21,500 lbs and got the same mileage. 268 miles, 32 gals. fuel. What's wrong with this picture????????????? Can any one help?????????????????
