I don't know who told you this, but it's not true.
There's lots of R-12 around. Anyone who says different is trying to get
you to spend bucks for something you don't need.
Try another A/C shop.

Today I discovered my 93 Ranger would not engage 4WD. Pressing the dash
button did nothing other than click; no dash light came on and no change in
transfer case. I may have detected a slight change in idle speed as the
button was pressed...anyone have any experience with this problem? Any and
all suggestions appreciated.

I just bought a 1993 F150 4x4 extended cab , automatic, a/c, loaded etc.

I have a couple of quesions:

1....Is the small radiator looking thing in the grill a transmission
cooler ??

2...How can I tell which Transmission I have???? the owners manual lists
several
different automatics.

3...How would I know if either the front or back or both
axle/differentials
are limited slip or what?

4...Are there any known problems with these trucks???

I have had similar experiences with Ford customer service concerning the
Explorer's inherent harmonic vibration problem. Clearly a design
problem! But they are charging owner's about a grand to "repair" (modify)
the drive train to mask the problem. The customer service rep was very
kind until she became aware of the technical service bulletin I was
referring to. Then it was like talking to a brick wall. I had to
repeatedly demand arbitration paperwork.
Concerning Dodge customer service; I off handedly asked my dealer about
peeling paint on my 92 Dodge Dakota. He said to call the customer
service number (he gave it to me). To make a long story short, Chrysler
stripped and repainted the entire truck (the hood was the only place with
peeling paint) for a minimal deductible cost. The truck is in the 7-70
warranty, but the paint warranty had expired. Well, the wife's Explorer
will be traded for a Dodge Durango as soon as they are available without
a premium.
Oh, by the way, I've been a true "blue" Ford truck lover for the last 20
years. The Dakota is my first non Ford Truck.

I bougth a 93 Ford Explorer last year and I can tell you that some of these
dealers sometimes don't know what they are doing. I had a problem with its
allignment and I had to bring it back four times to have it repaired. They
kept telling me that they had everything checked out and that is how an
explorer drives. Well after the fourth time my warranty finally ran out and
decided to take it to a Sears Automotive. Turns out that the only thing wrong
with it, is that,it needed camber-caster kits. The part only cost $31. I
don't know what it was that they looked at but all I know is that they spent
more time and energy trying to tell me that there nothing wrong with it than
fixing the truck right. Anyway if you ever want to buy a Ford don't go to
Rancho Cordova, Ca.

On Thursday my wife is going to have labor induced so I will
be out of touch Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning. Don't
expect personal email replies, advertisements or truck pics
on the site during that time. As everyone has seen, occasionally
an unsubscribe request slips through the cracks and gets on
the list. If someone could volunteer to either email them
unsubscribe instructions (the FAQ on the website has been updated
with correct unsubscribe instructions) or tell them to send their
requests to charlie lofcom.com (as a last resort as Charlie is
very busy with all the lists he oversees) I would really appreciate
it.

Tomorrow and Wednesday they are going to give my wife medication
to prepare her for labor. There is a slight chance the medication
could set off labor before Thursday so if I'm suddenly not
available tomorrow or Wednesday don't be surprized.

Thanks!

If you go to our web page you'll see the current design for the
"static cling" window sticker I have in the works for our list
members. Its now the title graphic for the page until I come up
with something better. http://www.ford-trucks.com

If you want to see the full size (and much cleaner/sharper)
version point your browser to:

http://www.ford-trucks.com/sticker2.gif

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'll announce pricing and
availability soon. Price will be cost + $1/$2 with the extra going
to the list "prudent reserve" account to cover our list costs. Anyone
who has donated will receive a sticker unless the cost turns our to be
enormous (I doubt it, I think they'll cost about a $1 each to make).
This is **not** intended to be money-maker and I don't expect high
quantity sales. Rather, it is the first step towards becoming a true
club/organization. Ford is sending me information about other clubs.
As always, the list will be free and we'll fund ourselves through
donations or items similar to the stickers. When we become a club in
the true sense I'm going to have to "share the reins" concerning the
club yet I'll still handle the day-to-day admin of the list/web site
(due to the nature of it its not a very sharable job). More on this later.

Thanks everyone! By weeks end we'll have over 700 members - still
working on a group purchase program with a few vendors. So far the best
deal offered is a 7% discount, trying for 10%.
