When you pull your parking brake, eh? Look at all the wires/harnesses that might move, when you pull the pbrake. Make sure there aren't any connectors/wires/etc. getting pinched, or pushed up against something that would make it ground out. Also, at night, or in your garage (i.e., dark in the cab) you might be able to see the arc or short, as it grounds out when you pull the pbrake. Sounds like you have a wire or connector that's shorting. Hope ya get it fixed, soon! I've been so pleased with my 95 that I haven't set foot in a Ford showroom since driving it home. I haven't seen any of these shortbox crewcabs but must give Ford credit for filling a niche that should have a good market. Now for my F-150 question: I have a daughter in Kalamazoo, MI that wants a pickup to tow a small horse trailer. She spotted a 95 F-150 Eddie Bauer supercab 4x4 at a dealer and asked me for my opinion. The truck was loaded and had a 5.8l engine with automatic. The dealer started at $24K and stopped at $19.5K. I said he was asking too much since I saw one like it in CO for $16.5K a couple months ago. Was I wrong here too? What kind of price should she expect for a late model 150 supercab 4x4 in SW MI? Anyone in the group that could recommend the best place to find a good deal on a truck of this type in SW MI? At least she's looking at a good truck, she's wanting to replace a Mopar. It was replaced by a leased 1994 Ranger with the 2.3 engine and a 5 speed, which I drove for 13,800 miles in the two years that I had it. At the end of the second lease, I purchased a 1996 Ranger with the 3.0 engine and a 5 speed. It currently has about 19,000 miles on it. All three of these trucks have had problems with the synchros in the transmission during the period that I've had them. Occasionally, but not always, they don't seem to want to upshift into second and/or third, or will shift hard into reverse. These aren't the only manual shift vehicles I've ever had, so I think that I know how to use a clutch and shift. I've always just figured that it was a problem with the Mazda produced transmissions. I never had the problem looked at by the dealer with either the '92 or '94. They were, after all, "just lease trucks". I'll certainly have the '96 looked at though, before the warranty expires. In the meantime, on those days when the transmission doesn't seem to want to work properly, I just double-clutch it. Even with the problem, they have all shifted better than the forklift truck that I used to drive in the steel mill . . . I've got a 1984 F-250 with 6.9L and it pulled a 27' fifth wheel from California to Mississippi and back at an average of 23 mpg, going at the speed limit as often as traffic allowed. It does have a custom rear on it, only 2.87; it would pull the Queen Mary if we got a big enough trailer. I think this engine - and the 7.3, by inference - got a bad reputation in some quarters because of some negligent handling way back when. These diesels all need - NEEEED - a special coolant additive or they die of cavitation in an amazingly short time. Many owners were not aware of this and their dealers didn't make it clear. The owner's manual didn't emphasize it either, as I recall. So there was a flurry of early sudden death. One day, around 60-70,000 miles (or even earlier) the owner would have trouble starting up and find coolant goo all over, like when gas engines pop a head gasket. Cavitation had eaten channels between chamber and cooling system. Very expensive repair. Sometimes a total rebuild. Do not ever - EVER - trust anybody to change the coolant/additive without prompting. That includes Ford dealers. In fact, it makes sense to do the job yourself or at least put the additive in yourself. My nearest Ford dealer wants too much for it anyway. Oh - and you might consider using Stanadyne fuel additives as well. Diesel owners should consider contacting Diesel Injection Services for these maintenance parts. http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.dieselpage.com I looked all over for the best prices and service and these guys are it. They're in Lubbock, Texas. They typically beat my local dealer by a good 30%, even after shipping. They also sell all K&N filters at discount, even rare numbers for non-diesel vehicles. They're a great resource for first time diesel owners. Plenty of expert, friendly advice. Diesels really are different.
