It could be caused by blockage in the drain from the (I believe it is reffered to as the condensor). This is the place where water drains while operating the AC. If this becomes plugged, the water will not drain and becomes really funky, like in the drain pan on a refridgerator. I here they even sell a special cleaner to spray into this area to clean it out, once you fix the drain problem. Hope this helps. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jul 97 07:09:12 EDT From: pharrell To: fordtrucks80up Subject: RE: 84 Bronco II Message-Id: I don't know why the wheel would come off but there are only about three reasons that it would, all can be confirmed on inspection. That shouldn't be a common problem to any vehicle! As for changing just the rear gearing on a 4WD...you can't. Just think about it for a second and you'll understand why. Depending on whether you changed rear gearing to a higher or lower ratio, when you engage 4wd, your rear wheels would either be pushing your front wheels or your front would be trying to drag your rear. Something would give pretty soon. You should only change gearing together. Also, changing ring and pinion sets can get pretty tricky. Getting the mesh just right requires shims, dial indicators, and a lot of patience. It may look like it's set up okay until you take it down the road. Then if it's not, you'll hear some pretty strange sounds! A more economical alternative to consider is going to a lower diameter tire. Two inches of tire diameter reduction can give you better lowend performance, and in some situations can even help mileage (where your engine could be lugging excessively and causing low manifold vacuum, making your carb power valve stay open too much of the time). good luck pharrell --- Begin Included Message --- I'm a newcomer. But I figured somebody out there must be having the same problems with their Bronco II. I've owned my 1984 Bronco II for about three weeks and have already had an accident with it. Driving down the highway I had my left rear wheel come flying off my truck. It caused approx. $1800 damage to the Bronco. I have heard from a few other Bronco II owners that they have had the same problem with the same wheel! Is this common with Bronco II's? Has anyone else had this happen to them? The Truck is a 1984 with a 2.8 V6 and approx 160,000kms or 100,000 miles. How would I prevent this from happening again? The truck was checked out by a garage before I bought it! Please let me know! I also find the stock (carburetor) engine is verrrrry sluggish. Are they all this underpowered or is it just mine? It has a 3speed auto and I have to shift it manually to get up to speed before sunset. Could my rear axle be running gears that are too tall? If I change the rear gearing, how would it affect the overall performance if I don't touch the front? It's not a half bad truck but I would like to have it running better before our -35Celsius winters come knocking at our doors! Thanx in advance Darren A. I'm not being picky, my answer is different for the two trucks. I have a 95 250 Powerstroke Supercab 4x4 and am basing the answer on my experience. In general the F-250 has a very good ride for a truck of its size and load rating. If you experienced this problem on an Interstate the problem may be a characteristic of wheel base length and ripple frequency in the road. The early Interstates that were made of concrete had sections of concrete that became distorted with a periodicity based on section size. The distortion was caused by the heavy over the road trucks. Even after overcoating these roads with asphalt the periodicity comes back with time. The wheelbase on Super/Extended cab pickups is such that they will go into a bucking mode when driven in the 50 to 70 MPH range on these roads. It happens on Dodges and Chevs as well as Fords. I first heard about the problem in a test report on a Dodge and experienced it after buying my Ford. I've travelled across the country and find sections of road with this ripple effect all over. If your problem doesn't fit the above you may need shocks but shocks usually produce a less severe motion than you've described. If you have a 350 you can expect a much harsher ride from the solid axle front and heavier rear springs. They do have a reputation for a rough ride. Larry If you don't care where you are, you ain't lost. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jul 1997 08:23:06 -0700 From: Rick Horwitz To: fordtrucks80up Subject: Re: 94 Ranger trans. problems Message-Id: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Whats a tremec?? >Nope, I have the same problems on my 95 with 61K.. ....but I dont plan >on doing anything about it since im going to replace it with a tremec >anyway. After my last letter, I figured I would check out the H.P. fuel pump. I had already changed the regulator, but I noticed that when you turned the key to 'on', the fuel pump would not shut off after building pressure, it also made a gurgalling sound when it ran that you could hear from several feet away. I bought this car used and the previous owner must have been an idiot. When I got under the car, not only was the regulator not in the rail, it was missing the covering and the bracket to hold it on the rail. It was just hanging there by the wires! I was also missing the skid plate that goes over my trans. pan. When I grabbed the pump, one of the wires(both were stripped in sections) just came out like nothing. It seems that they tried to install a fuel pump with duct tape, no joke. They left it hanging there to hit the camshaft and frame when you drove, completely exposed to rocks, pebbles, stones, snow, sand, etc. that could and did hit it. I got a junkyard pump with the covering and protective bracket with new wires. I'm hopeing that this will solve my problem of dying out, but I need some help with this one. Does anyone know how to put the new pump on without removing/destroying the camshaft. I found out the hard way that there isn't enough room between the shift cable and camshaft to get it in. I had though my shift cable just needed alignment, but I found out that it was actually bent from the people trying to get the pump out before. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. In response to Paul McAmish's letter, I too, would check the shutoff valve. If you don't fix the problem that way, and do change the regulator, trust me, don't buy an aftermarket regulator. Go to a dealer or somewhere and get the correct Bosch regulator. When I changed mine, I thought I would save myself money, but it just gave me more headaches. The gaskets didn't match up completely and I was mising a washer with the kit(which is not sold seperately, by the way). If you do go cheap, be careful putting it in because the gasket will rip and gas will spray. I found that out when some guy was behind me yelling that my my car was on fire. Ever seen a trail of fire under a car from gas hitting the exhaut, spraying toward the ground? LOL. I was actually lucky I didn't have anything else catch, but its still kinda funny. Otherwise, check for a loose connection on the wires going to the pump. Even though my problem was from a combination of things, I have heard that it can be common with the Bronco II's. Once again, any trade/sale parts are welcome. As well as any advice on getting that pump on. Thanks, Clay (ILuvTruks ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Apr 1997 12:41:48 -0700 From: "J.
