I was planning on lifting it 6 inches or so in order to fit 35 inch tires. The truck sees a good bit off road, but it is also my daily driver. I plan to compensate for the bigger tires with lower gears and maybe some other mods (new exhaust, headers, K&N air filter, etc.). I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with lifting the f-150 and if they could share any type of info with me. Thanks! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Aug 1997 19:34:06 -0400 From: Cardwell Smith To: fordtrucks80up Subject: Starting Problem with 1994 F-250 Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hello, I have a four-wheel drive, extended cab, 1994 F-250 with a 5.8L EFI engine which has run flawlessly up until last night. Now it refuses to start...appears as if no ignition or no fuel. No warnings of problems, just shut it off after coming home from work, tried to crank about 2 hours later....nothing. Have checked fuses and fuel pump emergency shutoff reset (it had not been tripped). I am wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar problem. I would sure like to hear from anyone with ideas...I really feel like it must be something simple (I just KNEW it was the emergency shutoff switch, but alas, not that easy). Thanks to the list for your time, Cardwell Smith ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Aug 97 19:33:51 EDT From: "Todd A. Muccilli" To: fordtrucks80up Subject: More on steering 97 F-350 Message-ID: The steering troubles on my 97 F-350 4x4 never seem to end... Lately, I have been feeling a "clicking" coming from the steering wheel/column when I am turning at low speeds, usually on rougher terrain. If I apply force on the steering wheel up, down, left, or right, there seems to be a little bit of motion/play in the column and I hear and feel the same "clicking" noise. I have a friend with the same truck and his steering wheel and column feel as tight as a drum. Is this normal or is this a symptom that something is going south? Also, is there any way to get around Ford's one-free-warranty-alignment policy? I am still having drifting/pulling problems with the same truck and am getting very little satisfaction from the dealership that I am working with (they claim that what I am feeling is normal). They have already aligned it a few times (toe alignment only). I have spoken to a few more competent dealers who are not interested in looking at it because if they find it needs further alignment work, Ford will not cover it and someone will have to suck up the cost. Is there any way around this? Thanks in advance once again, Todd ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Aug 1997 16:35:00 From: yhtlines To: fordtrucks80up Subject: Message-Id: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" I'm considering trading my 2 '95 pickups in on on 97 ext cab. I went down and looked at the Chevy and the Ford last night and spent a week earlier this summer in a Dodge. The Dodge is ungodly big, and I suspect even with the 360 is kinda pokey with its heft. I haven't driven the Chevy with the new vortech 350 yet. And I've always found the ext cab styling awkward on these. Ford? Standing alongside one, you say, well,,,the size is right for everyday use, the proportions are good. But the shape? Getting beyond that (which I may never), what's the word on the 5.4 engine in this. I don't think I would even go near the 4.6. So matter how you wind it, it won't work for a towing approach. I couldn't believe there were F250's there with the 4.6. Seeing the spark plugs poking out thru what is the intake manifold, vs down in the exhaust is a little strange, and the alternator in between the cylinder banks is a little flatheadish! Also, what about the new front end (chassis)? I always found the twin I beam to be reliable once you spent some money at a good shop tweaking it. So any experience towing with the 5.4? I've got a 302 Ford and a 350 GMC and know how both those tow. (the 350 is better). I was happy with the 3.55 axle in the Ford (302), does this still sound good? Btw, we had zero problems in 60k miles on the GMC, whereas the Ford had headlight, alignment, paint and rust problems in 38k miles. Even though it's big. You can't beat the fuel milage, towing capacity, and long range durability. This engine will run in excess of 400,000 miles before needing the rack-run! I think this would more than meet your needs. Not that I'm down on Fords but this is the best truck for the money of all of them.! Happy shopping. Ian P.S. I've got plenty now to know that it's broken-in (26,000). I usually get between 18 to 20, no matter what the driving. I've put a cab high alumium shell and Yakima roof rack (bikes, skis, etc) on, it came with the 3.27 gears, 235 tires and the 5 speed auto, and I've added Borla exhaust, a K&N and run Mobil One 5W-30. BTW, my sticker said 16 city and 26 highway. I have NEVER gotten close to 26 mpg, with or without the roof rack and camper shell.
