It appears that I will not need to put this up to a list vote (thankfully as its a pain to tally 900 votes). I've sent a follow-up to this company (I will not reveal their name until we have a confirmation as to their intentions, but believe me... they're one of the best) proposing that they advertise for $35-$40 a month. This amount will cover our expenses and it will put a few extra bucks into our reserve. I believe this amount to be extremely reasonable and well within my personal definition of keeping this a hobby, not a business. In return for their money, I would supply them with a statistics log of visits to our site, click-thrus on their banner, etc. Additionally, I'm going to email them our visitor statistic log for the past two months so they'll know that my "boast" of 200+ visitors a day is real. I've requested that they not sell or give away any names, addresses and email addresses they receive through me. If and when we come to an agreement, I'll put on on-line form on the web-site, accessible only to our members, which you can use to request one or more catalogs (they have auto catalogs too!). If we cannot come to an agreement, I will still list their site on our suppliers page and I'll reveal their name then. Lastly, I have requested that they send us group discount or special purchase terms. They have 4 catalogs that would be of interest to members on the older truck list, covering 1909 through 1972 trucks plus many auto catalogs (don't worry though, many 67-72 parts interchange with 73-79). If an similar opportunity for a newer truck part supplier arises, I'll inform everyone. I only wish I could tell the guys/gals on the newer list that I had a catalog offer for them as well. As a side note, they will **not** has influence on our list, their only presence will be on the home page. -Ken List Administrator, 1967 Ford F100, 390FE V8 Our web site: http://www.ford-trucks.com (subscribe/unsubscribe forms on the web site) fordtrucks fordtrucks80up (Email me if you're on the wrong list) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jul 1997 22:23:52 -0500 From: Bradley and Debbie Miller To: fordtrucks80up Subject: Truck tire replacement recommendation? Subtract the (real, honest-to-God, including the dog & beer) weight of the truck from that figure. What's left is what you can tow. (Not the listed weight, but the actual, honest-to-God, including the ditry dishes & dog food, weight.) If you are happy with that figure, go for it. When spec'ing a truck for towing, fuel mileage should be among your least important criteria. Top should be safety, then reliability. Getting 10 MPG instead of 8 does you no good if the brakes overheat on the way down Ebbett's Pass, or the tranny quits on the way up. -- Bill Funk President, ASCII User Group http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.starlink.com/~ascii ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 1997 07:18:05 -0400 From: Chris Kelly To: fordtrucks80up Subject: Re: Truck tire replacement recommendation? Hope this hasn't already been badgered before so, excuse me if it has. I am looking at getting a crew cab with the PowerStroke. Here is my question, this would be my first diesel engine and I was wondering how inconvenient or not finding diesel fuel around town or on trips? I tow a #3500 boat, not including gear, at least once a week for a 130 mile round trip and my Bronco with 5.8L is getting me 10mpg, not to the same around town. I know this is on par with typical Fords. I am looking at this from the perspective of fuel economy and towing capacity. The Bronco does okay but, struggles a bit on the climbs. Also, what is recommended maintenance and service periods. Thanks for your help. They've agreed. These are the preliminaries: 1. They do not engage in the practice of putting you on a mailing list (they won't even resend you next year's catalog unless you request it). 2. Once we have an agreement worked out, I'll send the company name and information to everyone on the lists. They are requesting that we just use their online form to request the catalogs, its easier for them to get in the format they need. 3. They do not have a discount policy for organizations like ours because everything still gets processed as separate orders so it creates a huge processing headache for them. Sorry! Regardless, they still have a huge selection, decent prices and a great reputation. 4. I think in the event that someone has a problem with them, they should contact them directly, state in your contact (or email) that you are a member of this group. If that doesn't work, bring it to the list like you would any other problem. Like I said earlier, no outside party is going to influence our list topics. Based on my experience with the company in the past, this won't be a problem. 5. They do ship outside of the US and they're set up to deal with customs. I'm not sure if they charge to ship a catalog out of the country for free, I'll find out. Their old catalog states $5 bucks to cover postage anywhere, but they didn't charge me then when it states that they should have. 6. The company is Ford licensed, sells NOS and reproductions. They do millions in business and will not go out of business the day after you place an order! 7. If I didn't address a concern of yours, let me know. Unfortunately, I don't feel comfortable giving out their name until we have a solid agreement - I hope everyone understands. Once we have an agreement, **complete** details of the company, our financial arrangement, subscription information and what we're going to provider for them. I think once everyone see's the dollar figure, you'll see that we're not going to make a buck off them, just pay our expenses. -Ken List Administrator, 1967 Ford F100, 390FE V8 Our web site: http://www.ford-trucks.com (subscribe/unsubscribe forms on the web site) fordtrucks fordtrucks80up (Email me if you're on the wrong list) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 1997 22:21:18 -0400 From: Charles Cohn To: fordtrucks80up Subject: Re: Tachometer signal Message-Id: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" At 07:07 AM 7/17/97 -0500, you wrote: >Hello to all, > >I recently aquired a 1994 F150 4x4 extended cab. The F-250 comes with a 3.73 axle ratio, the heavy duty E-40D transmission comes with the 5.4 (the 4.2 and 4.6 use a lesser transmission), the brakes are much bigger and can handle the extra braking with ease, the 5.4 is a powerhouse, etc.. I own a '97 F-250 extended cab, 2WD w/3.73 limited-slip rear axle, 5.4 liter SOHC V8. I tow a tournament ski boat (4000# boat and trailer) all over California with this truck and it is by far the best tow vehicle I have ever owned. The gas mileage is good but not great, I get 15-18 mpg not towing and 11-14 mpg towing, but I drive about 75 mph towing and not. I have added a few aftermarket products that I strongly recommend: 1. Free flow exhaust system --- I looked at flowmaster and dynaflow, but then I went to Midas and had a 4002 muffler installed and 3 inch tubing from the cats back. Cost me $250, but was worth a thousand bucks. 2. K & N Air Filter ($50) worth every penny added almost as much power as the exhaust modifications, especially notice it in the low-end. 3. MPC bug deflector -- bolts on and looks great. ($75) 4. Castrol Syntec 10W-30 picked up one mpg. Do not use additives i.e. slick 50, prolong, all a waste of money. So, essentially, I need the "bushing mounting kit" right? not the bushings themselves... Also, anyone have a favorite source of affordable "bolts and nuts" for Ford trucks other than the dealer? Basically I want to replace all the ones I've taken off up to now... because they were 10 years old and didn't come off "cleanly" :-|... the bumper bolts I'll get from the dealer (safety?) but the rest... ?? Thanks for your time. I'm documenting my repairs so one of these days I might toss up some pics on my www site... especially when I see end in sight :-) Take care. +-->Filip "I'll buy a vowel" Gieszczykiewicz | E-mail: filipg | http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.paranoia.com/~filipg/ |SCI.ELECTRONICS.REPAIR FAQ + LOTS MORE! | Enjoy your job, work within the law, make lots of money : Choose any two.....
