yeah im laughing, fun great, ha ha ha . you guys have fun but when this club
turns into nothing but wrong info and stupid remarks then it wont be fun
anymore. i laugh when i get something accomplished , fixed and save money,
thats when i laugh. or when i see another ford truck owner do the same, that
makes me happy , what does not, is these rip off repair shops kicking in our
butts. so have a good time.i dont mind fun, i think its funny. now does
anybody know where i can get some grease for my radiator bearings.

Hi guys...
I've been reading these digests for over a month now and there seems to be a
lot of worry about what-if's.
I bought my 98, 4.2, short bed, standard cab 2 months ago and it gets me to
and from work, carries my stuff and gets my groceries. I do have some
scatches and dings on the paint and in the bedliner already, but what the
hay... it's a truck and that's what I bought it for... to do truck stuff.
Perhaps some of you guys might enjoy your trucks alot more if you got in and
drove them instead of sitting around worrying about what MIGHT go wrong with
them.
Just my 2 cents.

Not phoney, but true...
I used to own a '70 VW Bus.
I pulled into a gas station (full service then) and the attendant filled
it up, then asked, with a smirk, if I wanted the water checked. I said
Yes.
He said there was no water. I asked if double or nothing on the gas
purchace would change his mind.
He stepped back, looked at the Bus, went to the back, got down on his
hands and knees and looked at the underside of the engine (maybe he
figured opening the engine compartment was cheating), satisfied himself
that this was, in fact, a Volkswagon, and said OK.
I reached down, took the top off the windshield washer water container,
and said Fill 'er up!

Moral: be careful! Some boats do have spare tires!

greetings all,

I have an 89 Ford Bronco ltd Full Sized 4x4. Dont harass me because I just got
it, and I dont know a damn thing about it!! :>) It came in handy during all
this rain in California, but more than likely, I wont rely too much on it. In
all honesty, I just wanted something that sat me higher than the guy in front
of me so I could watch the traffic in front of him!!! So sue me!

What I want to know is, what kind of things are specific to Ford Broncos
problem wise? What kind of maintenance should I perform? I mean besides oil
and other fluids? Any information from you wise folk will be greatly
appreciated. Especially if you could steer me towards a good web site that has
some 4x4 info. Its on a lift kit, what i guesstimate to be a 2". Its got two
shocks per front tire, 33 x 11.5 tires, and no steering shocks (the ones that
go across the front tires that you can see by looking at the front of a 4x4.

Well, I thank you in advance for your insights!!!!!

Something else to add onto this. When you buy a truck your not supposed to
be getting a geo metro, so whining about how you get 8mpg with your 460 is
not a good idea.

DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR TRUCK? regular mantainence ,do you fix it yourself or
take it to a garage to do the work. ask questions and you will learn something
about your truck, print it and keep it on file. and when it does break down ,
you will save in the long run. i dont keep my truck in a glass cover, but it
looks great and runs the same way, my truck is a work truck, and it works hard
, but i keep that truck running good, i dont ask the what ifs, but some people
need the knowlodge before they go out to buy the parts. mistakes are costly.

If your not sure, I would replace the O2 sensor first. It definately causes a
rich condition (black smoke) when it goes bad, and it is cheaper then a MAP
sensor.

I'm sure you realize that not everyone on this list is a Ford Truck expert
and I'm sure you also realize that getting someone elses mileage info might
actually help point to a problem with his or her truck. You know if a list
member gets 25MPG with a 460 and I only get 15MPG with a 302, that might be
cause for alarm. Ya know????

well i went to an auto store and alot of them sell it, imperial makes alot of
aftermarket cooling stuff , like flex fans , spacers , electric fans,
clutches for fans, what year truck do you have i installed mine on my 89 f-250
was not happy but good luck.

a lot cheaper.

The largest Electric Fan I saw was a 2500CFM drawing 10amps. There was no
horse power rating for this fan, but there was a rating of 250hp w/ Air for a
2200CFM fan (would you believe this fan drew 19amps???). So I imagine the
2500CFM fan would handle about 280hp w/ air. These fans were meant for V-8
cars which only work hard while you dust the pants off that Ch#vy for a 1/4
mile. But towing a 8000lb camper up a mile or longer 10% grade with a 460
would probably over do it.

Food for thought for you towing big blockers.

Any one heard of a higher than 2500CFM electric fan?

I think that I would need a 3000CFM to feel safe.

You know, Ryan, that if I was only getting 8mpg I would be upset and ask the
group. For those interested I check my mileage constantly and get 11.1mpg
in a 97 F250HD 460 4x4 SC 3.55 E4OD. I drive 12 miles one way to work half
city-half highway. If that dropped to a consistent 8... I would know there
was something wrong and could very well consult the group for their
experience. I would hope I wouldn't have to tolerate too much useless
personal opinion to get my answers. Also, 98% of all msgs. are
appropriately titled. You could skip the ones that don't interest you.

electric fans are great, i have a 10" fan i just installed in my f-250.( it
was a left over part i had from one of my old stretch limos) i added it for
extra cooling while idling in the heat with the ac on. but i dont just like to
depend on an electric fan for cooling, first they draw current which is not
too bad, but if you are towing something and that electric fan quits on you,
then buddy you are in trouble. even though it draws away horsepower i like the
mechanical idea on keeping the engine cool. but to each is own.if you dont tow
and want performance than go with the electric or flex. what ever makes ya
happy. just an opinion.

bucks, well that was the problem, and i ordered a 02 sensor for 37 bucks,
compared to 54 bucks.
mine is old. and like everybody else im looking to have my truck run tip top
shape and i dont care how much money i dump into it as long as i can save by
wheeling and dealing, it makes me happy. my truck is an 89 and if you saw it (
other than the old shape). you would think it was a 98.i couldnt help it but
when i was there i ordered a k&n air fliter too.it was a good price.
hey chad do you or anyone know if an 02 sensor will make a vehicle idle
rough??

I'm not sure about the Ranger, but some other cars go into a closed idle loop at
idle and ignore input from some sensors ( like the O2) until the throttle is
depressed. Short version: I don't know 8^)

hey dave, sounds like you have a good truck there, and thru the storms i bet
it was a life saver. now that your truck has helped you its time to return the
favor. if you need parts for your truck you can get one of those 4x4 magazines
on the newstand, or i will give you a # to call to order a free catalog(it has
everything for your truck and great prices) its called j c whitney the # is
312 431-6102 . they are in chicago.
change the fluid in your differentials both of them, if you dont want to drop
the pan just siphon the fluid out and add new fluid.check your transmission
fluid if it looks brown and smells burnt, change the oil, filter and gasket on
your transmission, and change your in line fuel filter.i dont know what else
to tell you, do you have any problems with the lift or the suspenion? how does
your engine run?if you want to increase power and fuel economy give it a tune
up, and change your oxygen sensor thats installed in the exhaust pipes near
your catalyic convertor, and another thing. if you plan on doing your own work
on your truck,or decide to keep it, go and buy yourself a shop manual at an
auto parts store and read it. it will familiarize you with your truck.it gives
you a full view of your truck. well if you have any questions feel free to ask
questions. THATS WHAT WE ARE HERE FOR, TO HELP EACH OTHER OUT WITH OUR
PROBLEMS, good luck.

If I'm not mistaken....the phony stories all started when someone asked
about a fluid cooler for a manual transmission? Then someone replied
with....alternator fluid....and so on. Well, it seems the original
poster was not out of line to ask for such a device! Yes, they are
readily available for automatics because these transmissions have a
pump in them to circulate fluid. There are also several companies that
offer electric pumps (Weldon Pump of Ohio), as well as v-belt driven
pumps (off of the driveshaft) to help circulate fluid on a manual.
True, most of these type units are utilized by circle track and
roadrace teams, though they could be set up for street use if someone
really wanted to run a cooler on a manual.....
