Subject: 90 F150 Dual gas tanks

I have a 1990 F150 with dual tanks. The switch and fuel pump is working;
but whenever I switch to the rear tank, the engine stalls as if getting
no fuel. Any suggestions?

Thanks to the "M-BLOCK DEVOTEE" for answers to my engine questions.
I am recieving my 1982 F-250 xl 4x4 from AZ. in a few weeks.
It has hearders with glass-pak mufflers,i have been reading here that you dont
recommend them. Can you tell me the whats wrong with them and what would you
recommend. Its dual exhaust so price is a real concern, can you give some
close guesses on price for what you recommend.
Also i found out the gvw is 8700lbs. because it has a towing package i guess,
so no catalytic converters,i love that part. Thanks Blaine in KY.

I have never done a pressure test before. Could someone tell me the tools I
am going to need, and how to go about doing it? If it is the core that is
leaking, would it be fixable, or is it something that must be replaced?

Someone suggested a pressure test of the system, which I think is a very
good idea. Don't overlook the possibility of a leaking heater core. I
think the stop leak stuff is good to limp home or to doctor one to
trade. It very seldom gives a permanent repair and most of it will end
up in the bottom of the inlet tank of the radiator. Guaranteed!
A pressure test is the best next step. Just my 2 cents.

Subject: Overdrive add on for C6?

I've got an 87 F-250 6.9l Banks turbo 4x4 w/C6 auto. Does nice job...but
the mileage could be better even w/ the 3.55's. I've been looking all over
the net today for overdrive units to add to it.

Your extra info is greatly desired since I think the products I found may
not be the ones for this truck.

Also, the engine and trany were rebuilt 10,000 miles ago but the xfr case
wasn't (didn't need it) but all of a sudden the ! #$ spedo decides to get
real spreatic (bounce a lot while not going over 40 mph). Long and short of
it is the spedo gear was wore somewhat on 1/2 to 2/3 of the way around
(signs of skipping?) Put a new gear in (carefully) and immediately did the
same
to the new gear. Q:how hard to change "driver" spedo gear and (since I
don't have a good shop to work in yet) is Ammco(the trans place) a good
place to go??

I live in southern California and have been a member of this list for
over six months now. I have enjoyed it very much. I have posted
questions and replied to other postings. I have an idea I'd like to pu
forth for concideration. I think it would be great fun to get together
with other members of this list for a weekend outing. I think we could
pick one of the trips from Harry Lewellyn's "glovebox" book on backroad
trips in southern California or if anyone knows of another good day trip
in the area. I think it would be best to limit it to a one-day event
for now. We could all meet at a predetermined location, drive the
scenic backroads to a nice spot for a potluck lunch, then home a
different route. Let me know what you all think of this idea. After
all the Jeep owners have their Jeep Jamboree. Why can't we have a
gathering as well. Send (or post) your thoughts to me soon, the summer
will be over before you know it. For quickest response reply to my
e-mail at work.

Ok, I crawled under to check the inspection hole on the bell housing, but I
don't seem to have one? It is one solid piece, so I can't take it off and
check for antifreeze accumulation down there. More specifically on where I
can see the antifreeze is on the thin plate of aluminum attached to the
front of the bellhousing, dripping down from up there somewhere... I still
cant see the origin of it, so when I find out how to do a pressure test, I
will do it. Any other ideas?

Also when I changed the tranny fluid a few months ago, I have been
getting a fairly constant seepage around the drain plug. In the Haynes
manual, it tells you to "tighten securely" which I did, and I kept getting
this little bit coming out. I did go back and put a little more pressure on
it, so it is tighter now, but still leaking the same as before. Is it
possible that I could have overtightened it? Or should I go down there and
tighten it down more?

A gathering at the Pigeon Forge, Tenn F100 Supernationals has been
mentioned for nearly 6 months on a few occassions on all the lists.
We've got a booth there and the show is in two weeks. Many list
members plan to be there. Its a great show with Fords both old
and new all over town. Show information is on the events guide on
the web site. Its in 2 weeks. Hope all you Left Coast members don't
mind flying out there.

Casey,
A pressure tester is a small hand operated air pump connected to a
radiator cap. Put the cap on the radiator and pump to about 16 to 20
psi (the tool is equipped with a small pressure guage). The tool will
hold this pressure on the cooling system while you look around for
leaks. It works really good. I have had mine for a while and forget
what I paid for it, but it sticks in my mind that it was about the price
a garage wanted to do the test.
I replace heater cores. It seems that if you repair one, next month it
will be leaking someplace else.

As posted earlier this week the list is going down now (8:00pm EST)
for the switch to the new list server.

The switch should take a couple of hours. Once the switch takes place,
an email will be sent to all list members containing uns*bscribe and p*sting
instructions. After receiving this email you'll be able to post.

S*bscribe requests to the old server will simply result in an email
containing new s*bscribe instructions. The web site and FAQ will be updated
to reflect the server change.

Also, no posts prior to downtime will get lost. I'll be
forcing a digest to go out to digest members about 5 minutes
before the shutdown so everyone will get their FTE fix.....
