If you wanna go buy a sports car instead, well so much for uniqueness. If you can find a sports car that outperforms it off-road,I for one would like to hear about it;or one that is even capable of 4WD at any speed for that matter. I was wondering if there were any other bronco owners on the list that could give me some tips on rebuilding. This is my first truck and my first 4x4. My wife purchased the truck for me about two weeks ago for 900.00. It has about 288000k on it but is in fairly good shape still. The body work consists of rear quarter surface rust and a couple of quarter to loony size holes in the rear floor and driver side wheel well. Other than that the body is in pretty good shape. I am also having a problem with the way it runs or idles i guess. When i am driving it the rpm's seem to stay up pretty high between gears. For example if i am doing 80k it reves at about 20,000 but if i let off on the gas it will drop down to 10,000 and stay at 80k. Any ideas? Other than that the truck seems to be pretty solid. My over all goal is to get the body and paint done, give it a 6" lift, go to some type of locking differential and bigger tires. If anyone any suggestions for me it would be greatly appreciated. I too recently got a 90 F-150 XLT Lariat also in great shape that also needed new shocks. I wanted to restore a "normal" controlled ride without excessive harshness of many aftermarket truck shocks. I looked at Autozone and Advance Auto. Both offered two versions of Gabriel shocks; Sport Rider billed as a smooth normal shock aimed at SUV owners tired of a rough ride and the other call Sport LT (I think) aimed at trucks, particularly 4x4, with stiffer ride for more heavy duty use. I chose the Sport Rider and like it. It has a bit stiffer "normal" well controlled ride on twisty bumpy back roads while not causing things to rattle. Both stores had either shock for $18 each. I chose Autozone (in Virginia) 'cause they had a promotion selling 4 for the price of 3. So problem solved for about $60. Not bad. WD is cool on tools, but what do you use in the parts washer now that solvent is gone. Some people I know are using gas, but not me! I have heard that 80% #1 diesel and 20% gas does a pretty good job, but I haven't tried it personally. I would like to know what others are using as my old solvent is getting pretty dirty. Nothing that I can think of is going to cut grease and oil like good old cleaning solvent. I know that this is somewhat off the subject of Ford trucks, but it is a problem that needs to be addressed. Besides, Ford parts is what got my solvent dirty in the first place! Darned EPA.
