Does anyone know how to remove the knob from the light switch on a '95 F150.
I need to get the upper dash panel off. On my old truck, (a '91) there was a
button on the side of the switch, but I can't even reach the switch on this
one. I'm sure it will be really simple, and I will feel silly for not
figuring it out, but I'd rather risk embarrassment than break it.

Also, right in the middle of the dash, just above the floor, there is a
connector on a pretty hefty bracket that nothing is plugged in to. Does
anyone know what that is for. I'm just curious. Thanks in advance for your
help.

Subject: A/C retrofit 87 F250 302

Howdy folks,

I'm going to be picking up an 87 F250 with a 302 for a bargain (father to
son sale). Truck runs fine (burns a little oil), not much to look at but
still can carry heavy loads without complaining. But I'm bringing it to
North Carolina from Pennsylvania and it has no air conditioning. Needless
to say, A/C is a *must* here. Can anyone tell me if I can install an R134a
system in this truck? What exactly do I need to procure to do this
retrofit, where can I get the components from, and about how much moolah am
I looking at laying out? Has anyone here ever added air to a truck like
this that never had air in the first place?

You can temporarily disconnect the aC wire and do no harm.

I suggest you put in a heater core. They are fairly cheap and easy to
put in. Shoot, get one from a junk yard!

Chris,
Not sure how much is involved, but you'd need the controls, panel,
hoses, compressor, comp bracket, another pulley w/duals?, condensor,
hoses, etc, etc, sounds like a major undertaking, but I'm sure you
wouldn't be the first to do it. I've got the 2/60 air system on my
'87 F-250. Roll down 2 windows and drive at 60 mph!

Take a small flat screwdriver or similar tool and press in on the metal
tab on the bottom/side of the knob while pulling the knob out. Then it
just slides back on when you are through. SImple as heck, once you find
the metal tab I am talking about.
If your truck has a trailer towing package, the connector you mentioned
would be where the pigtail from the electric brake contoller plugs up.

No, actually I am looking for a whole motor, engine, V8, powerplant.
I am kind of a "Shadetree Mechanic" and a bit stuck in the seventies.
I didn't keep up on my reading or tinkering and don't know the foggiest
about the 80s and 90s 351W EFI motors and am wondering if the list members
can lead me in the right direction to a good one, or good books to learn
as much. Any suggestions?
