Just a thought, does your vehicle have oil leaks? This could be the =
cause of your front end parts going out. Might try, next time your =
replacing front end parts, spending a little extra and going with =
urithane (SP???) bushings. They are impervious to fluid leaks. Anyway =
just a sugestion dont flame me for it.

On the rear you could just install a receiver hitch. It would strengthen =
the frame in the back as well as provide a good solid place to get =
pulled out from. I dont have the hooks in the front because when I =
inquired on having one installed was told I they would have to cut a =
slot in my spoiler (I have the one with the fog lights ie. for the STX). =
I just did'nt want them cutting up my spoiler. Anyway my 2cents worth.

KYB makes great shocks for all kinds of vehicles. I've been
recommending them for several years. I sold a set to a friend for his
Motorhome and he was very pleased, they were better than any others he
had tried. I have used them on my Mercedes and Audi and think they
matched or exceeded the original Bilstein and Boges. Soon I'll have a
set on my F-250 Powerstroke. Shop around and you should be able to get
them for considerably less than $50 each. I pay about $35 each with a
mechanic discount but not full wholesale.

i went to my local muffler shop (deep discount muffler) and they are the only
shop in my area that has 3'' pipe. i had a flowmaster muffler and a 3'' pipe
installed for 130 bucks. SHOP AROUND, DONT GET RIPPED. and good luck.

Subject: Gas tank fill time
A number of weeks ago I asked for some help with my '91 351 Bronco. Whenever
I put gas in it, the nozzle would shut off unless I only let it trickle in.
Several members of the list replied that they were having the same problem,
and one of the suggestions seems to have corrected it. Here's the deal:
It was suggested that I check the vent line from the tank for blockages or
kinks. A good suggestions, only one problem: my truck does not have a vent
line. The large diameter hose that runs from the filler door to the tank does
not actually carry the gas. Instead, there is a smaller diameter hose that
connects to the filler opening and simply runs down into the tank. This is
the path the gas takes, and I think that because it bends and it's inner
diameter is not much bigger than the nozzle itself, the fuel/fumes/pressure
backup inside this small hose enough to trip the nozzle. The area between the
small hose and the large tube is where the pressure from the tank gets
relieved (via a hole at the filler door).
The fix? Remove the small hose. If you remove the three small screws at the
filler door, loosen the two hose clamps on the tube (One is for support and
attaches to a bracket. The other attaches the steel tube to a large rubber
hose.), and twist the steel filler tube off the rubber hose, you'll find the
inner hose dangling out of the big one. Now this is the point of no return.
The little hose is simply slipped over a fitting at the opening, and once you
remove it there seems to be no easy way to reinstall it. In my case, that
crazy little hose is sitting on a shelf in my garage awaiting a chance to
continue life in a more productive capacity!
I've filled up twice since I removed the hose, and I no longer have to bring
reading materials with me when I fill up! The first time it initially spewed
a little gas out at me, but a nozzle readjustment solved that. The second
time, I just crammed the nozzle in and let'r rip. I know this is a long-
winded post on a seemingly trivial problem, but to me and some others, it is a
PITA. I can now fill up in less than 5 minutes instead of 15-20 minutes.
Give it a try. Worked for me.

First off, I have had limited slip differentials in several trucks and
cars and while a heck of a sight better than an open diff 2wd, they take
a poor second seat to 4wd even with both open diffs.

You don't get the gears when you order the $300 locker, all you get is the
differential carrier(that the ring gearmounts on) or an assembly that fits
inside of it with the lighter duty models. The lighter duty (spider gear
replacement) models appear easy enough for any shadetree mechanic to install
since there is no ring-gear backlash reshimming to be done. The heavy duty
(differential carrier replacement) models will require backlash check with a
dial indicator and possible reshimming.
Down side of a locker/limited slip diff? The rear tends to slide sideways on
slippery surfaces if the tires spin, especially with a light reared vehicle
like a truck or van. You learn to be a little easier on the gas pedal but you
can generally get through where you used to get stuck.
I am considering a locker for the rear of my van (have a LSD in front now)
and have canvassed the rec.autos.4x4 newsgroup for advice. A dozen people
responded that you should never use one for slippery highways, too dangerous!
All advised to use some sort of limited slip diff (LSD) instead. They also all
confessed to never having owned a locker but were passing on common knowledge.
A half dozen people who actually used various lockers responded as well.
All were very favourable about the positive benefits of a locker in a pickup
or jeep. The clunking is noticable, especially if the windows are down and
you do learn to use a light foot on slippery surfaces. The lockers tend to add
more drive line slack, not much of a bother with an automatic but it can be a
pain with a manual shift. This is second hand advice, but came frome first hand
users. My opinion is that I am soon buying a locker for the rear.

I was wondering if there is a little relay or something I could splice =
into my blinker hazards circuit that would make and audible sound when =
they are on. On my 83 I frequently forget that they are on, and drive =
through town with a blinker on or my hazards flashing. My dads 88 or 89 =
F 250 made a nice loud sound every time the blinker flashed, I wish mine =
would too. Any suggestions? ( I have looked in Whitney and gone to =
Napa, but haven't found anything yet)

Sounds expensive. I got a quote on Stainless Steel for only a hundred
more and that was installed with s/s hangers, mandrel bent and all. I
believe JSC just had a 3" installed on his truck for $130 at his local
shop. For that price, it's worth having someone else install it and
worry about cutting off the old rusty crap. The cat-back systems will
cost you almost what NAPA wants for the 2 1/4", depending on who you
go with of course. I was also quoted at $220 for dual 2 1/4"
aluminized exiting behind the rear wheels installed by a local shop
just to give you something to gage it by. Let us know what you do.

Try replacing the stock flasher with a heavy duty flasher. Like kind that
you would use when you are towing a trailer.
When I first hooked up the boat trailer to my '90 F150, the stock flasher
was blinking all the turn signals at a very slow rate. A new HD flasher
fixed that problem, plus it has a nice clicking sound.
One note: As I recall, the stock flasher is designed to tell you when a
bulb is burned out on one side by flashing the remaining bulb on that side
faster than normal. A HD flasher doesn't do this if I remeber correctly.

Well we didn't believe him, and I just saw one this evening. It was a =
full size beast, older, like a early 70's and it had a Ranger 250 emblem =
on it. Maybe there was a hint of truth in him :) not for his handy =
motor gunk though.
