Greetings all. My '97 F350 helped humanity in generall by sacrificing its front quarter panels, radiator and bumper in the cause against drunk drivers. However, this sacrifice is not without some aggravation to me, especially due to the fact that I am new to this area - so can anyone suggest somewhere to make my beast new again? Thanks, N. Ingersoll ps - no injuries all around, I only hit her (she was coming out of a "lounge" restaraunt parking lot) at about 20mph... but I doubt that that Dodge Caravan will be moving again, even if it ever gets out of the impound lot... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Feb 1998 12:16:13 EST From: peakbzsrvc Subject: Re: Mechanic in Denver Metro area? Thanks Randy! I'll pass this along to her. I was hoping for someone other than the Ford dealer, although sometimes I know that is the best place to go. My first choice would be an independent outside Mechanic. It's easy to find the dealer using Fords website and dealer locater. I think the problem sounds like an electrical gremlin to me only because Brake vacuum (or anything brake) isn't connected to oil pressure except by the electrical system. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. I have a bad ecu in my truck (89 F150 5.8) that makes the check engine lite come on under acceleration at nite. Ford ran a diagnostic and it came up as exactly that and nothing more. Thanks for the post, it is greatly appreciated! Mikey >Date: Mon, 16 Feb 1998 21:09:39 -0800 >From: Randy >Subject: Re: Mechanic in Denver Metro area? >Mike, don't know of anyone in Denver area, but my buddy used to live there and he said his dad was at two different Ford dealerships in Denver, one screwed him, the other fixed the problem. He says it's (the good one) at Havanna and Alameda in Aurora, but he can't remember the name, but she can check it out. Although 14 psi sounds low, as a rule of thumb you only need 10 psi per 1,000 rpm of the motor. So, figuring even a high idle of 1,000 rpm, 10 psi would suffice. The psi dropping with the brake pedal makes me believe that it's due to the vacuum pressure. The master cylinder is drawing vacuum pressure from the manifold, but I cannot explain why that would affect the gauge, sorry. The Bridgestones are much more loose on the highway and I notice more body roll than before. On the other hand, the Bridgestones are far superior off road than the Michelins. Much better traction in mud and snow. The BFG's are next for this summer. I couldn't decide what to do but I've finally put the coil spring expanders in the front coils. It gave it enough lift to help the leveling out. The only problem is when i put them in my tires tilt out on the top. I guess that would be considered positive camber. I know you lifted the front of yours how did you correct the problem. I was going to take it to my Ford dealer once I got them in to see if they can fix it. Matt ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Feb 1998 15:52:35 -0500 From: CONWAY Subject: Tire Recommendation: 92 F250 Looks to me like it is time for a new set of tires for my 92 F250 4x4 (they're bald). It currently has Uniroyal Laredos on it (bought by previous owner). I'm wondering if there's a better choice available. I use my pickup for daily around town commuting (unloaded) and also for towing my Jeep long distances to my Jeep club's trail rides. I've always used BFG ATs and MTs on previous 4x4's, but I'm thinking that the AT tread is probably too aggressive, considering I plan on mostly road/highway driving, and not using the F250 for much "real" off-road work. I think my requirements are: - long life - good highway performance (quiet - easy rolling) - good rain performance - good snow performance Suggestions on what works well, and what to avoid would be great.... Look in some = 4x4 mags and see what they offer. You could also try a 4x4 shop. They do = more lifts to 2 wheel drives than you would think. They might be able to = help you with this. But that is what you will need to properly align = your tires. If not you will wear the edges out on your tires. I did the = same thing to my 92 2 wheel drive ranger and thats how the tires wore on = it as a result. Its worth the money to buy taller springs, camber = bushings, and new front shocks if you plan on keeping the truck for a = while. If not you will be wearing edges of your front tires out. Anyway = hope this helps. If you could help me out on this one it would be much appreciated. I have a 85 F250 4x4 with a 351 4bbl. This past week it started missing at high engine speeds, like when going 60 on the highway and when you give it the gas and open up the secondaries. I have checked all I know to and cannot find any reason it wont get fuel except the carb. I am almost positive it is missing from lack of gas cause it doesn't miss on just certain cylinders. It just falls flat on its face when it doesn't get gas. I checked the fuel filter going into the float bowl on the carburator, and even went so far as to put a knew fuel pump on it. Has anyone else experienced this and if you have any suggestions thanks in advance. Chris Smith Purdue University, IN ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Feb 1998 14:51:21 -0800 From: Mike Marcum Subject: RE: Gas Starvation Chris, I had a 1990 F-250 with FI 302, and it exhibited similar characteristics due to a partly clogged in-line fuel filter (located on the frame, near the fuel tanks). It acted like a rev-limiter under load. For example, driving down the road, in any gear, it would run fine up to 2500 rpm, then it would not rev any higher. Sitting idle, it would rev up just fine past 2500rpm. I thought it was electrical, but low and behold, it was a $5.00 filter causing the problem. I now have an '86 F-250 with a 351W 4bbl., and have not run into fuel filter problems (yet :). Unfortunately, I have not climbed under the rig to notice if it has a large in-line filter, similar to my '90. If yours has one, it would be a good idea to replace it. Good luck. ps. what is the gear ratio in your truck? How do you like the performance of those gears? I have 4:10's and it responds well, but my fuel mileage is terrible, I was thinking about changine to 3:55. - - Mike > -----Original Message----- > From: Christopher Smith [SMTP:csmith60 > Sent: Tuesday, February 17, 1998 2:24 PM > To: fordtrucks80up > Cc: fordtrucks80up-digest > Subject: Gas Starvation > > Hey yall. The 20 minute install was right after 2 hours of finding place under the hood to place it,hook up was straight forward had to think a little, and it did fire right off after install.I have not driven many miles tonight however it is shifting better ,Idle is smoother, and it does have more punch when I get on it and the engine does feel stronger.now we will find out together what happens to that 11 miles a gallon.I will keep the group posted.
