It is amazing how many people think they can pour this gunk into their tank (be it Slick 50, EngineRevive or whatnot) and suddenly erase years of damage. Even worse, those that think this stuff will delay the regular maintenance they should do anyway. If this stuff was so great Ford, Chevy and every other car manufacturer would be putting it on the front page of every new car manual to run out and buy this and make it part of your regular maintenance. Mobil, Shell, MFA Oil would all be selling it like hotcakes. However, strangely enough, none of the above seem to be happening. I wonder why? The best thing you can do for any car is maintenance. I don't mean 100,000 mile tune-up (assuming it makes it that long) and think you've done a big thing. I mean regular, professional maintenance. My '97 Ranger gets taken in to the shop every 3,000 miles like clockwork for maintenance. I don't care how many schedules I have to juggle to do it. All my driving is strictly highway and by all accounts I should follow the 5,000 mile maintenance route. In fact, the guys at the dealer tell me that my oil is some of the cleanest they have EVER SEEN coming -OUT- of the engine when they change it. You'd be surprised how much changing the oil every 3,000 (and some say 2500, but I'll stick with 3000 for now) miles helps. It's like giving the engine a bath. I've seen engines with well over 150k miles on them that had the oil changed every 3k miles that look almost brand new on the inside. Instead of spending $19.95 on the latest fad to hit the market, spend $7 bucks on a filter and $10 on some fresh oil and change it. Yo Jake: The easiest way to tell the difference is to count the number of bolts holding down the valve covers. The Windsor engine has 6 bolts on the valve cover, the Cleveland family engines have 8 bolts on the valve cover. If the original engine in your truck was a 351 V8, it was a 351 Windsor. The only other 351 available in F trucks was the 351M. The 351M is in the same design family as the 351 Cleveland, and it was used in F trucks from 1977 through 1983. The 351 Cleveland was never installed in F trucks by the factory. I can't speak for everyone but I'd have to think most people prefer the 6 series over the 5 due to flexibility. First off, the 5 only works with points and factory igntion modules EXCEPT GM's Hei. The six series works with points, magnetic trigger or GM HEI ignitions. The six series allows for more options such as a fixed timing computer, multi-step retard etc... Windsor includes the 255,260,289,302,351 family. Cleveland engines are pretty much by themselves although they are similar to the Modified family (351M,400). If it is not a Windsor it is probably a Modified as Cleveland's are getting rare. Took me less than a minute. I picked up my new gear ahead of time, I went from the stock P235-15's to 31x10.50 and I had to go with a gear that had one less tooth. They actually come in different colors but the number of teeth are what is important. I calculated the percentage difference in rolling distance with the new tires and determined I needed to drop 5 % for the speedo and odo to be accurate. I went to Ford, they told me my stock green gear had 20 teeth and gave me a pink gear with 19 teeth. They had it in stock, say they get calls for them all the time. Cost me less than $6 bucks with tax. It now records like a charm. It was the easiest thing I ever replaced on the truck. I would imagine that your Ranger would be very, very similar. Hope this helps. The tires can turn only so far before it would exceed the amount of stress that the front shafts' knuckle can handle. I have an '87 w/the Dana 50 IFS and the front drive shafts fit thru holes in the dreaded twin-traction beams. The wheel ends of the shafts have U-joints in them to allow for the turning of the wheel. If you turn the wheel hard and drive slow in a parking lot you can feel the 'lurching' of the front-end. That is caused by every quarter-turn of the u-joint. I think if the truck turned any tighter, the force would put excessive bind on the joints and at minimum wear them out prematurely. I have a RC LB and I hate the huge radius, but when I was looking for this truck I drove a SC LB and man that was like turning around a bus! I can just imagine the Crew cabs! I think there are some stops somewhere that limit the turning of the wheels, but doing any mods here might be asking for trouble. Later, Randy Michael Wrap wrote: > > I have an '86 F250 SC 4x4. The 6AL has a rev limiter (sorta pointless seeing that it comes with >5000rpm rev limiter and the truck has a redline of 4500) Go with the 6A and the incab timing control.
