In 87' I bought an 81' Toy 4x4 from a relative. The truck was = very well maintained and in perfect running condition. It had 80k miles = on it. I drove till' it had 160k miles on it. Three months befor I = bought it the manual trany had been completely rebuilt. In the time I = owned the truck I put 3 clutches, pressure plates, and throw-out = bearings in it. Two flywhels, one center chunck from the rear end, and = two trany rebuilds. Give me a break the truck was a piece of sh$%! Not = only that parts like transmissions from junkyards were three times the = cost as for amarican trucks. The center chunk for the rear end, from a = junk yard was $300. After the rear end ordeal and a week later the trany = (the syncronizer btween 4th and 5th went and trashed 5th gear again) I = sold the truck as soon as I fixed it. I bought an 80' Ford Courier (with = a ford 4 banger not the mazda motor). It was my first Ford. I remember = brake drums for the toy were upwards of 80 bucks, I bought brand new = ones for the Ford for 20 bucks. I snapped the ceneter chunck in the = Courier....it was only $50 from a salvage yard. Thats when I said I = would never buy another import. I drove the Courier till it saw 150k = miles and sold it (with the original clutch still in it. I still see = that truck every now and then, still alive and running. I'm real hard on = what I drive but new clutches every 20k miles was rediculous. I never = even did any towing. With my 93' Ranger with 85k miles I probly have = about 30 to 35k miles towing my boat in those miles on it. When the = slave cylinder to the clutch went bad I replaced the clutch at the same = time. Still had some left and I had 75k miles on it. Not only that the = clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and new slave cylinder cost = about $240 from the dealer. Just the clutch, pressure plate, and = throw-out bearing for the toy were over $300. I mean like what the fu# Did they build the toy parts on the space shuttle or what? Now I know = lots of people who swear by their toys, but when the toy breaks they pay = much more to fix it than we do as Ford owners. Sory so long winded but = that is why I will never own another one of those toy cars. The amber Check Engine light often illuminates but turns itself off after a few minutes, or after restarting the engine. I have not found anyone who can read out the diagnostic codes from the computer to tell me why the Check Engine light is illuminating. When taken back to a dealer for repair they say they found a loose wire to fix the Check Engine light but couldn't tell me which one when asked (and there was no fix).
