From the old F*rds! >>> >>I don't know, my sister dug up a picture of me next to my 1947 Dodge >>Deluxe sedan, and I'd swear the ront ends were interchangeable, except >the sedan had a push bar on the front(old squad car). My Ram doesn't. There's more truth to the first statement than most folks realize. Chrysler's current styling, while lauded as the industry's best, hasn't exactly been known for its originality. The Viper is an admitted take-off on the 1960's Cobra. The Prowler is based on any 1930's era car (some say Model A) and the Ram is another admitted take-off of any modern day semi (take a look at some of the big-rig Fords). Their Atlantic showcar of a few years back was a modern-day rendering of the classic Bugatti. Too bad Ford and the other manufacturers don't get any royalties for Chrysler's "new" styling. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 11:20:23 EDT From: DAA7490 Subject: OK,... what about this? Mucho Thanks on the response to the Diesel Conversion Idea. Outside of the $50 sell me your 7.3 Liter motor suggestion, it sounds like the 'get another Truck' theory is the most popular. That being the case, How about this; what are the best vendors/options for Performance Enhancement of a 7.3 L (460 cu. in.) gas motor? I realize that a turbo or supercharger would probably be the best ticket but I'm not familiar with companies that offer those options. Racing stuff I've figured out but now I need to get the tow truck more muscle. Anybody have any history or recommendations from pulling trailers, rv's,...? The truck is great on flat ground but with trailer, car, tools, crew, junk,... it has problems on the hills here in California and going over to Nevada. Any suggestions (realistic and/or not flippant) would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time. Subject: '99 Chevy Silverado Since you guys are talking about Dodge I'd thought I might as well bring up Chevy. Anyway I hear that GM did a test with this Silverado against a 97 or maybe 98 Ford F-150. It was like a drag race, the object was to race to 80mph and back to zero. And from what im hearing the Chevy was finished before the Ford was at 80. I guess the trucks were similair with no special horse boosters or anything. If any of you know about this or have any comments I would appreciate a reply. /\ /\ /\ |~****~| `------` Ford Diesel Long Live The King POWERSTROKEMAN ______________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 15:46:52 -0400 From: "Chad Royse" Subject: RE: Saleen Explorer 140mph Explorer? Now that's much more practical than a brush guard. Just think how fast we can get the groceries home and the kids to soccer practice now! :) Now I am as big as fan as the next guy when it comes to kicken also a very no BS kinda guy. It just seems like a lot of extra $$$ when I could go out and buy several different sports cars that out performs it in every aspect, many of which will cost less. And I think Mike hit a good point. There's a difference in a vehicle that was designed from the ground up as a can of whupass and one that merely has one bolted on. Now before I get a lot of flak over bolt-ons, I'm just saying they can be wisely used and... not. If I'm going to make a serious investment in upgrades, I'm going to try to enhance the already existing potential. Even if it isn't used every day. Hell I even like going faster, but not at the expense of a 800lb payload or 1500lb tow rating in a truck. When it's taken to that extreme it's like somebody trying to make his Mustang an offroad contender. Why not just start with a vehicle that's got some potential? Why reinvent the wheel? The Saleen Mustangs were 5.0 cars modified brand-new with 5 lug wheels, roll cages, additional structural supports, suspension mods, with the 5.0s warmed up.Their "claim to fame" AFAIK was that you could drive one of these off the Ford Dealership lot(the only place you could get them) and go racing! Just one more note on the Ford Tremor; you can find it at the Popular Mechanix website. It is featured there with other experimental vehicles from C%*#y & D*# question of whether or not an SUV can perform safely meant to compete with formula sports cars.It is that it will get to 140mph at all! I'd love to have a Tremor for the weekend.
