There are 3 settings on the device:Off; E4OD shifts like mush,as always.Pos.#1 shifts firm up a little bit and a definate engagement difference is noted both in the feel and on the tach(drops fast as opposed to dropping slowly as the clutches slide together) Pos.#2 is firmer yet.Not bruatally hard, but more than on the first position.I guess this is the one you would use for towing. True to the instructions enclosed it took about an hour to install, and this area of the truck was unfamiliar to me. Enclosed instructions are pretty good and show connection point locations for both gas and diesel applications. This was reccommended to me by a BigBronco list member who had tried it successfully also. The shift plus is available from Summit for 39.95 plus 4.50 for handling, and they paid the air freight.Their # is 1-800-230-3030.I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't tried it myself, but the damn thing works.I'm going to operate mine on position 1,and recently changed the trans fluid to castrol synthetic.Hope this helps somebody. Subject: Re: F-250 I think for a 15 acre farm an F-250 Heavy Duty would be the lightest truck I would buy. 8ft bed or flatbed just whatever you think would come in handy more often. Make sure you get a diesel, powerstroke would definately please you, but you won't find a powerstroke for less than 20 grand. I don't thing gasoline engines are very dependable. Do not get a cummins. So I recomend a F-250HD diesel. /\ /\ /\ |~****~| `------` Ford Diesel Long Live The King POWERSTROKEMAN >Hi, a couple of days ago i asked what type of truck would be good for a 15 acre farm. > I also asked the same question a couple of days before that, but no one replyed. >So any way my grandfather the one who wants the truck says that he thinks a F-250 >would be good but would like to know what you guys think. I usually dont leave the fan on when I drive, but I know this is only a short-term solution, any ideas??--->Tim ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Apr 1998 20:33:52 EDT From: Croth2 Subject: bent bumper Somebody told me that you can adjust how your bumper sits even if its bent. Mine was bent on my 89 F-150 4x4 , and last night I hooked a chain onto that steel frame piece that the bumper hooks onto, and I pulled a 65ft Elm tree out of my driveway, which resulted in screwing up my bumper even more. Is there any truth to what I heard about the bumper being adjustable? If so how do you do it? any suggestions?--> Tim ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Apr 1998 23:35:11 -0400 From: Brian Perwak Subject: New Truck I am looking to purchase a new ('97 leftover) truck. I am trying to decide between a F-250 or a F-350. I plan on getting the powerstroke and four wheel drive. The most I plan on towing is 5000 lbs. Any comments, especially on the choice of engines? Its not made in the states. Someone sent me a picture (sort of like a RAV4) buy I know nothing about them. I think the photo was home grown. I've seen a Maverick sitting on a Blazer frame. (It shows up at all the 4X4 swap meets at the Puyallup Fairgrounds here in Washington). The one here is orange and the frame setup is pretty obvious. Bob At 11:50 PM 4/12/98 -0400, you wrote: >Anyone heard of the Ford Maveric SUV? Its not made in the >states. (side note) The ford courier is still being produced for South America I belive. Interesting General and Global information about ford, it is not affliliated with ford though. This is right of the page: "Unfortunately you may never see a Maverick SUV as it is only available in select European countries, which include: Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, U.K. " http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.fordworldnews.com/index.html/maverick.htm This is the Maveric Page. Prety nice looking too, but we'll never see it here. US-content... replaced all 4 shocks in my 91 Ranger 4x2 today, took me about 2 hours. Gotta love simple designs. It'll cost about $300 for the dealer to replace it. The part itself is about $200. Most expensive part in the entire braking system (naturally). You can check the code pretty easily but I don't remember off-hand how. It was in my Chilton manual. The brakes will work OK but you won't have any ABS. I thought I could live with it until I had to make a quick stop on the fway. Rear locked up immediately and damn near ended up sideways. Scared the ! night and had it replaced. OTOH, that's the only repair expense I've had with the truck in five years.
