I extensively used Ken Payne's list archives and Jason Lester's power stoke web page in my research of a new truck. I will pick up my new F250HD 4X4 SC Power Stroke tomorrow {Actually that was last weekend, I got it now}. It was a tough choice to go with the old body style especially not knowing what the new F250HD/F350 will even be (I can't believe it will look like the pictures on the Ford Truck's web site). I looked at a lot of used power strokes and could find anything I really wanted and liked the way it drove. Very few '96 used ones out there and they want top dollar for them too (many were more then I paid for my NEW 97). All the '95s I drove seemed down on power and the auto seemed to shift very soft compared to the new ones. Maybe it was just psychological, but I don't think so. I ended up buying a lost leader rather than order one (prices have gone up for new orders btw. I got my truck right at Dealer Invoice, they still made their 3% holdback so they did ok (go to WWW.KBB.com for all the prices, WWW.edmonds.com has hold back rates). I do not think I could have got a better deal unless ford starts incentives on them in the spring of '98 when the new body style comes out. I got all the options I wanted, except the Idle control and two tone paint (auto, 4.10LS, 40/20/40 seat, Tow, Offroad (see below), HD Rear, XLT, Swing mirrors, SRW, privacy, AT tires, manual hubs, spare, etc. Anyone that is thinking about Aux idle control, ORDER it. It is $500 from the dealer + labor to install! During order it is only $170. I have decided to pass on the $500+ idle control, too bad I really wanted that. I got one option that I really do not want, power driver seat (not good in a SCab I think). That might be my first thing I take off the truck. Here is something interesting. If you get a power stroke with the tow pkg or the camper pkg and order the off road pkg, you only get a decal that says "off road"(and most of the time the decal is deleted, and should be!). The off road pkg includes skip plates (std on Power stroke) and handling pkg (Std on tow or camper). So save your self some time and pass on the off road. FYI I did get the latest info yesterday from the dealer (on official ford letter head) on the new body style. Job 1 (when the first truck rolls of the assembly line) is Jan 5th, 1998 with delivery sometime in feb/march. Pricing will not be available until after job 1. Both the F250HD and the F350 will have a "monobeam" front axle (I don't remember if that was both 4X2 and 4X4, but at least it was for 4X4). That helped make up my mind for the old body style as I want IFS. The power stroke will be offered (Ford would be really stupid if they did not), with the V10 Modular replacing the 460. The dealer said that the new body style will not be a "Radical" as the F150, what ever that means. Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for the help. Now I just need to learn all the care and feeding routines for the power stroke (my first diesel). I really look forward to it! Anyone who wants to pass along some good tips on my new truck please do (like break in, diesel maintenance, etc.). I checked everything you checked and nothing helped. I even bought a code scanner. I finally found a problem with my lower intake leaking. This is causing a vacuum loss. Try replacing your lower intake gasket. As for your friends problem only happening when he selects the front tank. If when running, does the problem stop when he switches to the rear tank? If so, the front tank fuel pump is bad. Unless Ford has made a recent change to their trailer package the receiver isn't included and its presence or lack of is no proof of the package. Also some models have the tranny cooler without the towing package, it comes with other options. What you will have is wiring for the trailer lights and brakes if you have the towing package. There will be a large seven pin connector hanging down, or tied up, behind the rear bumper or near the spare tire. I had one dropped in the means you outlined. Had no problems srapping or bottomming out. Except for one occasion when I borrowed a set of 14' with 195/60/14's, where I found that on extremely rough roads the tranny crosmember would drap and scrape. With my set of rims I didn't have this prblem. The only problem I had was that when I lowered it the rear was a good 1" lower than the front. Air shocks fixed this nicely. Had....
